We’ve seen a lot of comments lately along the lines of “there’s nothing for youth to do” and “someone needs to open a place for kids to hang out.” So we’re pulling Coach Kyle’s response out of the comments and making it a proper post.

First, huge shoutout to JRMCC, Kikinahk, and Piwapin for the youth programming they already run. The Town, Village, and library do their part too. Tag any other organizations we missed because they deserve the recognition. Whether it’s minor sports or other organizations, a small group of people in this community are working hard to make things happen and they can always use more help so this is our subtle nudge to find an organization or cause you’re passionate about and volunteer some time with them.

The ice is out for the summer, which means Coach Kyle has some evenings free. We’re willing to take the lead on trying some new programming this summer but we want to hear from the people asking for it.

What do you actually want to see? Where should it be hosted? Who’s going to help? How does it get paid for? If you’ve got youth in your lives you’re hoping the programming reaches, talk with them. We want to know what’s going to actually engage them and what they’re going to actually show up and participate in.

What a great weekend for the No Limits goalies! We had 5 goalies participating with their Bands or Tribal Councils in the FSIN Youth Hockey Championships this past weekend. Emerson played his way to a gold medal win with the U13 89ers; check out our last post for that one! We also had Cole in net for Southend Sabres U13, Shavonne for the Team Woodland U11/13 Girls, and Roni and Myles with the U9 89ers.

We’re super proud of all of our goalies this weekend. Your dedication, passion, and determination were great to see, and it was super fun watching you all play this weekend. Keep up the amazing work!

A big shout out to all of the LLRIB 89ers and Team Woodland athletes as well. You competed hard every game, and should be proud of yourselves for your sportsmanship, the effort you put in, and the way you represented your community. We see a lot of you throughout the season at practices and shinny, and it was so awesome to see everyone compete and battle all weekend.

Last but not least thanks to Jamey for sending us a picture of Cole, and thanks to Tara for sending us a picture she had with Myles in it! As expected, Coach Kyle was bad at getting pictures for social media again and missed getting a couple of our goalies!

A huge congratulations going out to No Limits goalie Emerson who had an incredible weekend at the FSIN Youth Hockey Championships in Saskatoon! Emerson was solid all weekend and backstopped the U13 Lac La Ronge Indian Band 89ers to a Gold Medal victory in a hard fought game against Big River First Nation. To top it off, he also won the Top Goalie award for the U13 division. It was a close game throughout, and Emerson came up with some big saves at big moments to keep the boys in it.

Congratulations Emerson and the rest of the U13 89ers on a fantastic weekend! 🏅🏅🏆

Proud to have played a small part in fundraising for such a great community initiative and organization!

Spotlight Saturday!

This week, we’re proud to spotlight another amazing small business right here in our Tri-Community!

Kyle Sephton, owner of No Limits Goaltending, reached out to our team at the beginning of October to help raise funds to bring healthcare closer to home. Kyle moved from Ontario to La Ronge in 2019 and launched No Limits Goaltending in 2020 to bring affordable, elite-level goalie development to the North. No Limits Goaltending is on a mission to ensure local athletes can access high level development opportunities without needing to leave home.

Over the past hockey season, the No Limits Goaltending team and their goalies worked together to raise $1,000 in support of our campaign for the La Ronge & Area Long Term Care Fundraising Committee, while also raising funds for the Goalie Guild’s Lift the Mask Mental Health Initiative.

Thank you, No Limits Goaltending and the No Limits goalies, for your support and generosity as we continue working toward our $5,000,000 goal to furnish and equip the new La Ronge & Area Long Term Care Home, Dialysis Unit & Expanded Therapies Area.

While we aren’t quite done yet, we all know the No Limits Goaltending account is not great at staying on top of social media content so we’re doing our wrap up a few days early! We did convince Coach Kyle that Canva Pro is a worthwhile investment though, so at least our posts are starting to look a bit better and more consistent!

There’s one ice time left and then Kyle will be out with the U9/11/13 LLRIB FSIN and Woodland Girls teams, and that will be that for the season.

We can’t say enough good things about this year. We worked with more goalies, organizations, and teams than ever before. We had goalies earning major achievements in athletics and academics. We had goalies getting called up to play in the SJHL. Some of our older goalies started coaching with us at camps and clinics! Coach Kyle was recognized as a Young Entrepreneur Bursary Recipient in Saskatchewan, and attended the IIHF International Goalie Coaching Symposium, and supported the SaskFirst U18 program.

Thank you to everyone who trusts us for their goalie development needs. Whether it’s private lessons, team practices, camps, or coach development, your support means the world to us.

We want to extend a very special thank you to the JRMCC Sports and Recreation Department for all their support of us year over year. We genuinely couldn’t operate as efficiently, effectively, or athlete centred without them. Whether it’s Kevin supporting us with events, Nichole or Michelle dealing with Kyle’s non-stop and all hours ice rental inquiries, or rink staff making sure the ice is awesome, we can’t thank the entire JRMCC team enough.

A big congratulations going out to a couple of our No Limits girl goalies this weekend! Both Roni and Shavonne were invited to play with some of our neighbouring First Nations communities in the 2026 Elite Indigenous Border Battle Championships.

While they didn’t take home any medals, neither girl is coming home empty handed either. Both of them won player of the game honours during the tournament.

These girls have been great to work with all season long and were super excited to see their hard work paying off with invitations to participate in events like the Border Battle.

Congratulations Roni and Shavonne, we’re super proud of you for earning this opportunity and playing some awesome hockey! Keep up the great work!

Sending a huge shoutout to Coach Alex Bell on winning the Twin Rivers Hockey League Championship last night! Alex is a great role model for our youth goalies and a great example of how the results will come if you put in the work to get them.

Hey La Ronge Minor Hockey U7 & U9 players! We’re super excited to be finishing the season off with a Try Goalie event! Come on out to JRMCC on Sunday March 29th from 1-3pm and try the greatest position in hockey!

We’ll have part of the ice opened up for shinny so you can play around when you’re not in net - the other part of the ice will be where you can throw our Bauer Learn To Save gear on and make some saves. Please make sure you wear your full player equipment!

If you’ve thought about trying goalie before but didn’t want to commit to a full practice in goalie gear this is for you! The Learn to Save gear goes on over your player equipment, and Coach Kyle can have you in and out of it in about a minute! If you’re in net and don’t like it, you can just swap right back to playing shinny in no time.

We won’t have formal registration for this event and there’s no cost. If you’re with LRMH U7 or U9 please connect with your coaches so we can make sure we have enough supervision on the ice.

What an amazing time at our first ever Try Goalie event! We had 8 kids come out and work their way through the net, and everyone had a lot of fun - we’re pretty certain a few of these kids are going to be wanting to play goalie more often after today.

Not a lot of good content from today because Coach Kyle was having a too much fun as well. All the kids also had a chance to get their pictures taken with the Stanley Cup and NHL Alumni Rich Pilon and Bryan Trottier! We can’t thank , Kevin Roberts, and Brandi Bell enough for letting us be a part of Hockey & Health Days!

A special shout out as well to LRMH U13 player and goalie Cassadee for helping out on the ice today and being a great coach and role model for our future goalies!
