Big changes are coming to workplace first aid training in Ontario.

Starting June 22, 2026:
✅ Standard First Aid (SFA) becomes Intermediate First Aid (IFA)
✅ Emergency First Aid (EFA) becomes Basic First Aid (BFA)

Current certifications remain valid until expiry, so there’s no need to panic. The goal of the update is to improve consistency and clarity across Ontario workplace first aid training.

At Forest City First Aid, we’re well prepared for the transition and have Intermediate First Aid courses available for registration now for dates after the launch.

We’ll continue focusing on what matters most:

✔ Real emergency confidence
✔ CPR-C & AED skills

Do you know how CPR is different for pregnant women? 🤰❤️

A lot of people think it’s completely different, but for a lay rescuer, most of it stays the same.

✅ Chest compressions stay the same
✅ AED use stays the same
✅ The main difference: if the person is obviously pregnant, place something soft under the right hip to create a small tilt while keeping them mostly flat for effective CPR

And one of the biggest things to remember?
If you want to save the baby, you have to save the mother first.

We just upgraded our CPR training 👀

At Forest City First Aid, we’ve added a female CPR manikin to our classes, and this is actually a bigger deal than most people realize.

Studies have shown that in public cardiac arrests, women are less likely to receive bystander CPR than men. A commonly cited American Heart Association summary notes that 45% of men received bystander CPR in public, compared with only 39% of women.

Why? A lot of it comes down to hesitation. People are scared of doing it wrong, feel awkward, or worry about touching a woman’s chest in an emergency.

That’s exactly why we invested in this.

We want our students to build real confidence, practice more realistically, and leave class feeling prepared to help anyone when it matters most.
