There is a lot more to channel therapy as described in the Neijing than just sticking needles in people. One prime example that we seldom see in modern clinics is the 圓鍼 yuan zhen, the round needle which is described as

鍼如卵形，揩摩分間，不得傷肌肉，以寫分氣

having the shape of an egg, rub and brush the division spaces without harming the flesh and muscles, used to drain qi division qi.

In practice this tool seems to displace local accumulations of blood and qi in a way quite similar to direct moxa. It is perfectly suited to be used by manual and massage therapists who want to up their channel therapy game.
