When the month of July was almost over, my husband turned to me and said “why don’t you just take the month of August off too?”
Because even though I still found myself being distracted elsewhere, there was a big sense of relief that came with taking the time off.
I do think that taking breaks from social media is great for your mental health.
But, when I caught myself getting distracted with other things on my phone I realized that giving up social media wasn’t the answer.
It was finding a better system to have a healthier relationship with it.
Because the truth is, I enjoy working online. Creating content has been a huge learning curve, but a fun one. And above all, the community I’ve connected with was something I missed while I was gone.
So instead of having an all or nothing approach, I decided to start with keeping my phone on a designated shelf in my home.
I’m going against all my millennial urges to have it on vibrate and put the ringer on to know when I’m getting a call.
Other than that, every other notification can wait until the day is over.
