Helpful Coping Skill for Anxiety:
Find a place to lie on the ground. It’s great if you can put your feet up!
Lie down and breathe. Focus on the exhale. Try a prayer breath (inhale: Jesus, exhale: you are with me).
Stay down there for a few minutes.

This is a great somatic exercise you can do everywhere and anywhere. It will help your body slow down when you are feeling anxious. (Breath prayer helps engage your mind in the practice of peace as well).

I personally do this with my kids, my clients, the youth I work with, in my kitchen, outside or in living room. Any floor will do!

I love this strategy because you can literally take it anywhere if you’re not afraid to look too silly. Practice this still 1X a day to help reduce stress and combat anxiety before it gets too heavy.

Some of us are so busy with the hustle culture around us that we forget to breathe, eat, and sleep. Some of us are so absorbed with our own pain or anxiety that we can’t see beyond it. Some of us fill up each moment of our day so we won’t have to sit in stillness with our own thoughts.

What if there was a better way to live life?

This post on mindfulness gives a small peek into what the skill of mindfulness can do in your life if practiced and how God works within mindfulness.

If you end up using any of the mindfulness tips, drop a comment below to let me know how it went!

As promised, here is the 2nd half of “taking your thoughts captive”.

If we are paying attention to our negative thoughts and ruminating on them and acting on them, we will need to spend the same amount of time, if not more, on changing them and acting out that change!

What is a negative thought you noticed this week?
What would be an alternative positive thought and scripture to go with it?

Noticing your thoughts!
As promised, I am sharing a tool that I use for noticing and managing thoughts. This is part one of a two-part post. Keep an eye out for next week‘s post to finish off the tool.
