Well I am very grateful for this video.
I often encourage my clients to live and train barefoot, or at least with minimalist footwear where appropriate.
I always strongly advise against high heels and other restrictive footwear.
This has put people off sometimes.
I try to explain why I say these things but it's not always fully understood.
This video does an incredible job at explaining this all in great detail.
Enjoy it!
…
One correction I need to make though is the following:
The video states that there are 100’s of muscles in the feet. More accurately there are:
✅ 29–33 muscles are involved in foot movement and control.
✅ 20 intrinsic muscles (entirely within the foot)
✅9–13 extrinsic muscles (originate in the lower leg, act on the foot)
Also there are not hundreds of thousands of nerve endings in the feet. There are still a lot though:
There are 7,000–10,000 sensory nerve endings per foot So roughly 15,000–20,000 total for both feet
These include:
• Mechanoreceptors (touch, pressure, vibration)
• Proprioceptors (joint position, movement)
• Nociceptors (pain)
• Thermoreceptors (temperature)
So the point he is trying to make here is still very valid.
But we must be accurate!
Your feet are the foundation of your movement and long-term health—but modern shoes often work against them. In this free masterclass, Galahad Clark reveals how footwear affects pain, balance, and mobility, and how healthier feet can support your whole body.
