The YEG Equestrian Pony Pals Camera Club had a fantastic morning Saturday at Century Mile Racetrack and Casino

This initiative, created by Sarah Mavro of The Yeg Equestrian, is about building community among horse fans from all backgrounds and creating opportunities to learn, connect and experience different corners of the horse industry. I was happy to support Sarah’s idea of coming to the Thoroughbred & Quarter Horse race track!

Because it was Canadian Derby Preview morning, we started with a $5 breakfast at the Finish Line Restaurant before heading out to the rail to talk horses and photography. (The Canadian Derby runs this Saturday at Century Mile)

A big thank you to Century's Chris Tian Photography for answering questions and sharing his expertise about photographing at the racetrack. The photos coming out of the morning have been fabulous!

Most of the photographers were already professionals working in other areas of the horse industry, but had an interest in learning more about racehorses and capturing the action at the track.

And that is exactly what came out of this fun morning...new horse racing fans, fabulous content, new connections and the idea that we should plan another visit soon from a different location on the Century Mile race track.

Anddd the last weekend for Thoroughbred/Quarter Horse racing at Century Mile is Saturday, September 12th. If you haven’t made it there yet this year, plan on attending!

I'm excited to share Pony Pals Camera Club!
This is such a great community-building idea from The Yeg Equestrian, Sarah Mavro, bringing horse lovers and photography lovers together to get out, take some photos, meet like-minded people and experience new places. The idea is simple: roaming photo meetups and field trips where you can just show up, bring your camera and enjoy some time around horses and photography.

This Saturday morning, Pony Pals Camera Club will be meeting at Century Mile Racetrack and Casino from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. during the Canadian Derby Preview. For just $5, you can enjoy breakfast while photographing the Canadian Derby and Stakes contenders during their morning training.

We're also excited to have a meet-and-greet with racehorse photography superstar Chris Tian Photography of YEG Horse Racing Nation!

Pancakes and ponies anyone?!

Join us this upcoming Saturday, August 15 for our Canadian Derby Preview breakfast!

Catch some of our Derby and stakes contenders on track during morning training and enjoy a breakfast buffet in The Finish Line Restaurant for a minimum $5 donation per person to the HRA Backstretch Foundation!

Breakfast reservations are required and can be made by emailing [email protected]. The outdoor apron will be open to all!
