💚 OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY: SUPPORTING THE WHOLE PERSON 💚

October is Occupational Therapy Month! 🎉

Occupational therapy (OT) is an integral part of mental health care, helping people build the skills, confidence, and strategies to navigate everyday life and thrive.

OTs look beyond a diagnosis to understand the whole person…their strengths, needs, environments, and goals. They help turn “I know what I need” into “I have the tools to do it.” ✨

In mental health, occupational therapists support:
🌿 Sensory processing and regulation
🧠 Executive functioning, planning, and organization
💚 Emotional regulation and coping skills
🤝 Social skills, communication, and connection
🌱 Daily living skills, routines, and independence
✨ Self-advocacy and environmental adaptations
💛 Safer coping strategies and alternatives to nonsuicidal self-injury

At Storify, we know OT is about more than getting through the day…it’s about helping people participate in life in ways that feel meaningful, manageable, and authentic to them.

💚 This October, and all year long, we celebrate our incredible occupational therapists and the difference they make in mental health and beyond.

Thank you for helping people build skills, discover strengths, and thrive! 🙌

📞 There are some phone calls you just love making.

Calling to say, “Your appointment is confirmed”? Nice.

Calling to say, “We’ve received your paperwork”? Important.

But calling someone to say…

🎉 “YOU WON A GIFT BASKET!”

Now that’s a therapeutic phone call. 😂

Our amazing Storify Team, Donna, Jill and Lisa had so much fun connecting with everyone at the first annual Strong Women, Healthy Kids: The Foothills Health Expo and they we’re so excited to celebrate one lucky winner!!

🎁 Congratulations!!!🎁

We hope this basket brings a little extra joy to your week…because sometimes the best things in life really do come from simply putting your name in a draw.

And honestly… we might need to make more phone calls like this. ❤️

Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a time to honor the survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never made it home, and reflect on the ongoing impacts on Indigenous communities.
Today, we wear orange to send a clear, unified message: Every Child Matters 🧡
At Storify Therapy, we believe in the power of storytelling, healing, and active reconciliation. Healing begins with understanding the truth, listening to Indigenous voices, educating ourselves on our history, and committing to meaningful action within our communities.
How you can participate today and beyond:
* Wear Orange: Show solidarity and honor the legacy of residential school survivors.
* Listen & Learn: Read stories by Indigenous authors, support Indigenous creators, and learn about the land you live on.
* Reflect & Engage: Take time to discuss the significance of reconciliation with family and friends.
Let’s carry the spirit of remembrance, empathy, and active change today and every day.

Thank you to Foothills Fetal Alcohol Society and the University of Calgary for hosting such a meaningful day of learning and connection at The FASD Exchange: Research, Relationships, and Reflection. 💛

We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn, connect with others, and reflect on how we can continue to strengthen our understanding and practice when supporting individuals and families affected by FASD.

We’re also so happy to be building our partnership with Foothills Fetal Alcohol Society and are grateful for the opportunity to work together to support individuals and families in our community. 💙

Thank you for creating space to share knowledge, build relationships, and continue the conversation around FASD. Foothills Fetal Alcohol Soc.

🍂 As the days grow cooler and life starts to speed up, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Autumn brings a natural invitation to slow down, ground ourselves, and make space for what truly matters.
Here are a few small Fall comforts to hold onto this season: Protecting your peace: Saying no when your calendar is too full. Warmth & comfort: Putting on your coziest sweater. Simple pleasures: A warm drink in your favorite mug. Mindful moments: A walk in the crisp autumn air. Deep connection: A meaningful conversation with someone who makes you feel truly understood
Which of these comforts are you prioritizing this week? Let us know in the comments below! 👇

🗣️ Is your child having difficulty being understood or communicating?

Every child develops communication skills at their own pace, but when you have concerns about your child’s speech or language, it can be hard to know what’s typical and when to seek support.

At Storify Therapy Services, our Speech-Language Pathology services are designed to help children build communication skills in a supportive, strengths-based environment. 💙

We can help with:
✨ Speech sounds and articulation
✨ Understanding and using language
✨ Social and conversational communication
✨ Communication that supports learning
✨ Assessment, recommendations and consultation

Whether you have a specific concern or simply want a better understanding of your child’s communication development, you don’t have to figure it out alone.
