COMMUNITY NOTICE – DRUG ALERT

Onion Lake Cree Nation has been advised of a Drug Alert issued by the Saskatchewan Health Authority and Onion Lake Emergency Medical Services following multiple overdoses and two suspected overdose-related deaths in our community between July 1–8, 2026.

The reported substance is described as a brown-coloured substance, sometimes found in a black bag, and may be sold as “down” or fentanyl. It is believed to contain fentanyl or other unknown opioids, and in all reported cases, the substance was smoked.

There is a HIGH RISK of overdose and death.

If you or someone you know uses substances:

Never use alone.
Carry a naloxone kit and know how to use it.
Call 911 (tel:911) immediately if you suspect an overdose.
If using alone, contact the National Overdose Response Service: 1-888-688-NORS (tel:1-888-688-NORS) (6677).

We encourage all community members to check in on family, friends, Elders, and loved ones during this time. A simple phone call or visit could save a life.

Please review and share the attached Drug Alert to help keep our community informed.

Let’s look out for one another and keep our community safe.
