📚🐾 Connected Roots Therapy – Book of the Month 🐾📚

This month, we’re featuring Teddy Talks by Vanessa Messenger — a heartwarming story that helps children understand the everyday realities of living with Type 1 Diabetes through the eyes of Teddy, an adorable and relatable pup. 💙

In the story, Teddy learns about things like blood sugar checks, insulin, and managing diabetes day-to-day, while also navigating the emotions that can come with feeling “different.” The book gently introduces these concepts in a way that is reassuring, easy for children to understand, and filled with encouragement.

What we love most about this book is how it helps children see that having diabetes is only one part of who they are. Teddy’s story promotes resilience, self-confidence, emotional expression, and connection — all while helping kids feel less alone in their experiences.

Books like this can also open the door for meaningful conversations between children, parents, caregivers, teachers, and peers. Whether a child is newly diagnosed, has a sibling or friend with T1D, or simply wants to learn more, this story creates understanding and compassion in an age-appropriate way.

At Connected Roots Therapy, we believe stories can be powerful tools for emotional healing, education, and helping children make sense of big life experiences. ✨

🌿 Happy Mother’s Day from Connected Roots Therapy 🌿

Today, we honour all those who hold a mothering role in the lives of children and youth. 💛

To birth moms, adoptive moms, foster moms, stepmoms, grandmothers, aunties, chosen family, caregivers, two-spirit and LGBTQIA+ parents, those longing to become mothers, those grieving, and those carrying complicated feelings today — we see you.

Mothering can look like comforting a child through hard moments, advocating fiercely, rebuilding trust, holding boundaries with love, showing up after rupture, managing appointments and school calls, or simply creating safety and belonging one day at a time.

There is no one way to be a mother.
There is no perfect version of caregiving.
What matters most is connection, care, and the steady reminder to a child: you matter here.

Sending gentleness today to everyone celebrating, grieving, surviving, healing, or redefining what this day means for them. 🌷

May the 4th be with you ✨

At Connected Roots Therapy, we’re thinking about the many “journeys” that shape who we are, especially the deeply meaningful path toward permanency.

Permanency isn’t just a destination. It’s a process of building safety, belonging, and connection over time. For children, youth, and families navigating foster care, adoption, or kinship care, the journey can feel uncertain but no one has to walk it alone.

Today feels like a gentle reminder that even in complex stories, there can be guidance, support, and hope along the way.

We’re here to walk alongside you,
honouring every step, every question, and every version of what “home” can mean.

🌿 Rooted Reads: Book of the Month 🌿

This month, we’re leaning into something a little lighthearted… and very real.

📖 Book of the Month:
Feelings Are Like Farts

Yes—this one might bring some giggles 🤭
But underneath the humour is a message kids (and adults) really need:
👉 feelings are natural
👉 holding them in can be uncomfortable
👉 letting them out in safe ways matters

For many kids, big emotions can feel confusing or overwhelming. Books like this help take something heavy and make it more approachable—even a little silly—which can open the door to deeper conversations. 🌱

✨ Try this:
While reading together, pause and gently ask:
“What do your feelings feel like in your body?”
This helps kids start to notice and connect with their internal experience in a safe, playful way.

📚 Find it locally:

💬 And maybe… share a laugh along the way. Connection doesn’t always have to be serious.

Meet Tiara ✨

We’re so happy to introduce the newest member of our Connected Roots Therapy team — Tiara Ibbrahim, our Administrative Assistant.

Tiara is often the first point of contact when you reach out to us. She supports the behind-the-scenes pieces that help our practice run smoothly and thoughtfully, including:
• Responding to inquiries and helping you get started
• Supporting scheduling and coordination
• Keeping communication organized and flowing
• Helping us stay grounded in the details so we can stay present with our clients

Her role allows our clinicians to focus more fully on what matters most — showing up with care, attunement, and intention in the therapy space.

If you’ve emailed us recently, there’s a good chance you’ve already connected with her 💛

We’re so grateful to have you with us, Tiara!

We’re growing 🌿

Connected Roots Therapy is looking for a Registered Social Worker or Psychotherapist to join our team as an independent contractor.

We’re especially hoping to connect with a clinician who:
✨ loves working with young children (12 and under)
✨ uses play-based and/or somatic approaches
✨ values connection, creativity, and slowing things down
✨ feels drawn to supporting families navigating big emotions
✨ (bonus) has experience or interest in supporting children living with Type 1 Diabetes and their caregivers

This is a space where your work can feel meaningful, supported, and aligned.

If you’re looking for a practice that feels human, grounded, and connected — we’d love to hear from you 🤍
