Fun facts about dandelions:
🌱 Each “puffball” isn’t a single flower. It’s actually a globe made of dozens to hundreds of individual seeds, each attached to its own tiny parachute.
🌱 That fluffy white umbrella is called a pappus. It acts like an ultra-efficient flight device that creates a stable vortex of air above the seed, helping it stay airborne for up to miles.
🌱 The seed head opens and closes depending on humidity. In dry weather, the puffball opens for launch. In damp weather, it closes up, which helps avoid releasing seeds when flying conditions are poor.
🌱 Dandelions are masters of colonization partly because many can reproduce without pollination. This process is called apomixis, which is essentially cloning themselves through seeds.
