The World Cup has always been about more than soccer for me.
It’s about pride. Culture. Family. FAITH. The songs we sing, the flags we wave, the tears we cry, and the memories we make together.
But it also has a way of exposing something deeper.
When passion turns into prejudice...
When competition becomes hatred...
When the colour of someone’s skin, their accent, or where they come from becomes a reason to judge rather than celebrate...
We’ve missed the whole point.
Years ago, I wrote this article after witnessing racism firsthand. Reading it again today, during another World Cup, I realized how sadly relevant it still is.
As parents, we are raising the next generation of fans. More importantly, we’re raising the next generation of humans!!!
Our children are always watching.
May they see us cheer fiercely for our teams while respecting every person on the field and in the stands. May they learn that you can love your country without hating someone else’s. And may they grow up believing that our differences are something to celebrate - not fear.
Love will always be louder than hate!!!! Let’s remember this and live it.
