Blended families aren’t created by erasing the past.
They’re created by making room for everything that came before. 🌿
Think of a forest.
Every tree has its own roots.
Its own history.
Its own story.
And yet, they grow beside one another.
Marriage can be like that.
Especially when two people come together with children, memories, traditions, loyalties and lives that existed long before they found each other.
You don’t have to replace anyone.
You don’t have to compete with the past.
You don’t have to force everyone to become one overnight.
You are creating something new.
But here’s something I believe blended couples need to hear:
Don’t let building the family cause you to forget the marriage.
The children matter.
Their feelings matter.
Their relationships with their parents matter.
But your relationship matters too.
You still need dates.
Private conversations.
Affection.
Laughter.
Time alone.
The freedom to talk about the difficult things without an audience.
You need to remember that before you became a family unit, you chose each other.
And that choice needs tending too.
Because when the couple becomes disconnected, the entire family can feel it.
A strong blended family isn’t built by sacrificing the marriage.
It’s built by protecting the marriage while making room for everyone else.
Different roots.
Different histories.
One family growing together.
And maybe that’s the beautiful part:
Nobody has to lose their place for someone else to belong. 🌿
So here’s the question for the couple:
In the middle of taking care of everyone else, are you still taking care of each other?
