My kid has mono and a broken knuckle.
So we took him fishing.

Making the best of a $h!t situation is something this family has gotten really good at.

I dislike fishing by the way. I find it boring.

But I used to pack up, drive two hours to this cottage, and sneak away as often as I could just to get out from under the week.

Back to the stress on Monday. Repeat.

One day someone asked me: wouldn't it be nice to build a life you don't need to escape from?

This is that life.

Mono, broken knuckle, neighbour's dock, dog in the water, and all of it.

I am completely, entirely here.
Not escaping to this place.

Just living in it.

Things people wonder before coming to a retreat like this.

Do I have to share in front of the group?
No. Everybody's eyes are closed and you simply raise your hand. Nobody knows what you're sharing.

Will I get emotional in front of strangers? No. There's no reliving the past. This is a content-free process. No catharsis required.

What actually happens in the three hours? You come in, sit in a chair, and follow guided instructions. That's it.

Time-based techniques used for decades in NLP. This retreat uses quantum ones. The results are grounded in quantum physics.

We work with the five core heavy emotions.

Anger. Sadness. Fear. Guilt. Shame.

We release the accumulated weight attached to each one, plus one not-so-nice belief you have about yourself.

People leave saying something they'd been carrying was simply... gone.

The plans changed.

A few months ago he apologized to me for giving up my weekend to watch him play.

Now I'm the one who's sorry.

Six weeks recovering from a broken finger. Coaches watching. A recruitment camp on the horizon. Tuesday's appointment to finally get cleared.

Then we ended up in the hospital.

Mono.
Two months off. Football ends here at the end of June.
No film. No camp. No season.

And as his mom, I started running the list in my head. The silver linings. The gratitude pieces.
He's young. He has time. It could be worse.

I caught myself.

Because I know what it feels like to have someone hand you that list when you're still in it.

"Just breathe."
"Relax."
"It could be worse."
"Be grateful."
"You're still young, you have plenty of time."

Those words come from love. They land like a door closing.

In that moment you don't want a reframe. You don't want perspective. You want someone to sit down beside you, look you in the eye, and say:

That f@$king blows.
I'm sorry.

So that's what I'm doing.
For him. Right now.

And when he's ready, I'll walk through it with him.
Because I'm going through it too.

The room is ready.
June 28. Peterborough. Small group. In person.

You know when your laptop slows to a crawl because too much is running in the background?

Your neurosomatic system (mind, body, and soul) does the same thing.

The anger that's bigger than the moment.
The resentment that builds over the small things.
The exhaustion sleep doesn't fix.

It's not a character flaw. It's a system that's been running at capacity for too long.

Carrying the weight of every anger, sadness, fear, guilt, and shame that's been stuck in a loop.

On June 28 I'm holding a 3-hour guided release experience in Peterborough.

Nothing to analyze. Nothing to figure out. No new skills to learn.

You just show up, sit in a comfortable seat, and follow the guided instructions.

Today my daughter turns 25.

Twenty-five is a milestone. It's the age where life starts to feel like it's really, truly yours.

I traveled this weekend to be with her, and I wrote her a card. Some of this wisdom is the kind you pass down with intention. Some of it is the kind you earn the hard way. All of it is true.

Happy birthday, Kayla. You are fierce and funny and loving and magnificent, and I am grateful every single day that I get to be your mom.

Here's what I wrote:

Every day is a blessing.
Find a piece of joy every day because life will life.
Memories and experiences are worth more than things. It's what we take with us and the legacy we leave behind.
Learn to fight fairly.
Your peace is worth more than being right.
Laugh. Cry. Both are needed.
Get comfortable letting others cherish you as much as you cherish them.
Forgive yourself and others.
Understand that we all project our unresolved stuff onto each other. Knowing that changes everything.
Use your voice. Express your truth.
Take care of yourself so you can take care of others.
Quality over quantity. Always.
A good bra is worth every penny.
Long nails make it harder to punch. Keep them short.
Costco hot dogs are never worth the stink.

The world is a better place because you are in it.

And it becomes a better place for all of us when we silence the shoulds, embody who we are at our core, and have the courage to express it. And if you don't like what's underneath, you can update it.

We create a ripple effect.

It's 10:30 on a holiday Monday.

I'm in my PJs. Hair undone. No makeup. Tea in hand in my backyard.

And I have zero shoulds about it. 🫖

That didn't used to be true.
I used to "should" all over mornings like this.

I should be productive. I should be doing something. I should have a plan for the day.

I got really good at managing that voice. Until I stopped managing it and actually updated it.

Now it's just... quiet.

And I know I posted because someone needed to hear that it's possible.
