These losses affect residents, families, care providers, volunteers, and entire care communities, yet they often go unrecognized.

If you are caring for someone you love, this message is for you.

Family caregivers give so much of themselves—time, energy, patience, and love. They advocate, visit, listen, comfort, and often put their own needs aside.

Today is a gentle reminder that you matter too.

Taking time to rest, enjoy a quiet moment, connect with a friend, or simply take a deep breath is not a luxury—it is part of caring for the people who depend on you.

You don't have to do everything alone, and you don't have to be perfect. Small moments of self-care can help restore your strength for tomorrow.

To every family caregiver and Family Council volunteer: thank you for the compassion, kindness, and dedication you bring to long-term care every day. Your voice, your presence, and your love make a difference.

James's Story – When Hospitals Become Home Support
James wasn't asking for much.
His wife was living with dementia.
He simply needed help with feeding, bathing, and transfers so he could safely care for her at home.
But the amount of home support they needed wasn't affordable because of co-payments.
Without adequate support, crises became common.
When things became too difficult to manage, his wife ended up in hospital—again and again.
The hospital became the substitute for the home support they couldn't afford.
Hospitals are designed for acute medical care, not to fill gaps in community services.
When home support isn't accessible, everyone pays the price:
✔ Families experience burnout.
✔ Seniors lose quality of life.
✔ Hospitals become overcrowded.
Investing in affordable home support keeps people where they want to be—at home.

We had a wonderful time connecting with seniors, families, care partners, and community organizations at the North Shore Seniors' Health Expo!

Events like these are a great reminder of the importance of working together to support older adults and strengthen long-term care across British Columbia. We enjoyed sharing information about Family Councils, listening to community conversations, and building new connections with people who are passionate about improving the lives of long-term care residents.

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth. We appreciate the opportunity to connect with you!

Rotary Manor in Dawson Creek May 27.
Residents had a large selection of bedding plants to choose from to beautify the grounds. Thanks to the volunteers and families that joined in to do the ‘dirty’ work.
And 2 weeks later the results of Rebecca Greens planting and decorating.

This afternoon I listened to Margaret Little present to the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services on behalf of Save Our Northern Seniors, a non profit organization in Fort St. John that advocates for the quality of life of seniors.
The main objective was to advocate for the July 2025 announced addition of 84 more beds (the Third House) to alleviate the shortage of long term care beds in Fort St. John.
This project has been ‘repaced’, the government’s term, as of the current budget. The withdrawal of financing for this project affects the North and South Peace both. There are close to 90 clients waiting in hospitals or their homes for placement! Yes, that would fill the facility today.
Thank you Margaret for acknowledging the value of Family Councils and their contributions and recommending that we continue to be supported financially.
A perfect example of seniors working together for the benefit of our communities.
