If you have ever lain awake exhausted wondering why your mind refuses to shut off, this one is for you. 🀍

My latest blog is not a sleep tips list. It goes deeper than that.

It is about what your body is actually doing at night and why sleep problems are almost never just about sleep.

Read it at www.amandayoungcounselling.com and let me know if it resonates. πŸŒ™

You slept eight hours and woke up exhausted..

Not the kind of tired a nap fixes.

The kind that is there before you even open your eyes.

The kind that makes simple things feel heavy.

The kind that has been quietly sitting with you for so long you have started to wonder if this is just who you are now.

It is not. 🀍

This kind of exhaustion has a root. And it is almost never about sleep.

It is about what you have been carrying. How long you have been carrying it alone.

The emotions you have pushed down because there was never a safe place to put them.

The version of yourself you keep showing the world while the real one is running on empty behind the scenes.

You deserve more than just getting through the day.

You deserve to actually feel like yourself again. 🌱

I am Amanda, a Licensed Counselling Therapist based in Saint John, NB.

I work with people who are exhausted in exactly the way this post describes.

People who have been pushing through for so long they have forgotten what it feels like to not be tired.

I direct bill most major insurance providers so there is zero paperwork stress on your end.

You look completely fine from the outside..

And that is exactly the problem.

High functioning anxiety does not look like falling apart.

It looks like being the most reliable person in every room while quietly drowning inside it.

It looks like your to do list never being done even when everything is done.

It looks like lying awake replaying conversations that ended hours ago.

It looks like saying yes when your whole body is screaming no.

It looks like being praised for how well you handle everything while nobody knows how much it is costing you.

If you read this and felt seen, I want you to know that what you are experiencing is real. It has a name. And it is something we can actually work on together.

My name is Amanda Young and I have openings for new clients right now.

If this resonated with you, share it with someone who needs to see it. And if that someone is you, my inbox is open.

Book a session with me @ www.amandayoungcounselling.com or send me a message and we can connect from there.

The people in your life get the best of you..

Your patience.
Your understanding.
Your willingness to see the good in them even on their worst days.

And that is a beautiful thing.

But I want to ask you something honestly..

When did you last give yourself that same thing?

Not the version of yourself that performed well or held it together or made everyone proud.

The version that is tired.
The version that is struggling.
The version that made a mistake and cannot seem to let it go.
That version deserves your grace too. πŸ’›

This is one of the quietest and most common things I see in the people I work with.

An endless well of compassion for everyone around them and almost none left for themselves. 🌱

You are not the exception to kindness.

You never were.

My name is Amanda Young, and I currently have openings for people who are ready to start extending some of that grace inward.

If you are someone who gives everything to others and struggles to show yourself the same patience, that is exactly the kind of work we do together.

I offer direct billing for most major insurance providers, with sessions available both in-person and online.

If you are ready to start treating yourself the way you treat the people you love, tap the link to book a time that works for you. www.amandayoungcounselling.com

She made the lunches..

Answered the texts.

Handled the appointment she kept forgetting to reschedule.

Held her kid through a meltdown.

Smiled through a conversation she did not have energy for.

Said yes when she meant no.

Put everyone to bed.

And then sat in the quiet and felt completely empty.

Not ungrateful.

Not dramatic.

Just gone..

This is the part nobody talks about when it comes to motherhood.

The slow invisible erosion of giving everything you have, every single day, to people you love more than yourself.

And because you love them that much you keep going.

But here is what I want you to hear..

Running on empty does not make you a better mother..

It makes you a depleted one.

And depleted people cannot show up the way they want to for the people they love most.

Taking care of yourself is not selfish.

It is the most important thing you can do for your family.

If you can not remember the last time someone asked how you were and actually meant it, my office is that place.

Nobody checks on the strong one..

Because the strong one is always okay. πŸ‘€

The strong one answers the phone at midnight.

The strong one shows up when everyone else falls apart.

The strong one holds it together in the room so nobody else has to.

And they are really good at it.

So good that people forget to ask..

So good that eventually they forget how to ask for themselves.

Here is what nobody talks about..

Being the strong one is not always a personality trait.

Sometimes it is a survival strategy.

It often starts in childhood.

You learned early that your emotions were too much, or that someone else always needed you more, or that falling apart simply was not an option in your home.

So you became reliable. Steady. The one people count on.

And it served you. It really did.

But it also costs you something..

It costs you the ability to receive.

It costs you the permission to struggle out loud.

It costs you relationships where you are truly known and not just needed.

And over time, carrying everyone else while quietly carrying yourself becomes exhausting in a way that is very hard to explain to the people around you.

Because from the outside you look fine.

You always look fine.

The lesson here is this.

Strength and vulnerability are not opposites.

The most genuinely strong people I have ever worked with are the ones who learned how to let someone in.

That is not weakness.

That is courage. πŸ™Œ

If you are the person everyone leans on and you can not remember the last time you let yourself lean on someone, I want you to know that my office is a place where you do not have to be strong.

You just have to show up.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. 🌱

And every year I think about how much has changed in the conversation around mental health.

People are talking more openly.
Sharing more honestly.
Reaching out sooner.

That is a beautiful thing. πŸ’›

But I also think about the people who are still sitting quietly with something heavy, waiting until it gets bad enough to feel like they deserve support.

This post is for you.

You do not have to be in crisis to come to therapy.
You do not have to have a dramatic story or a clear diagnosis or a reason that feels serious enough.

Feeling stuck is enough. 🀍
Feeling exhausted by your own thoughts is enough.
Feeling like you keep having the same patterns in your relationships, your work, your inner world, and not knowing why, that is enough.

Mental health is not just the absence of illness.

It is how you feel about yourself when nobody is watching. It is the quality of your inner life.
It is whether you are just surviving or actually living.

And you are allowed to want more than surviving.

This month I want to invite you to take one small step.

Maybe that is having an honest conversation with someone you trust.
Maybe it is reading something that helps you understand yourself a little better.
Maybe it is finally sending that message you have been sitting on for weeks.

Whatever that step looks like for you, I am here. πŸ’›

New blog is live and this one might stop you mid-scroll.

If you have ever said "my childhood was fine" but something has always felt a little off, this is worth a read.

I wrote about what childhood trauma actually looks like in adults and why so many people never connect the dots.

Read it here and let me know if it resonates.
