Ascension Reiki honours the first three traditional degrees of Usui Reiki, and then continues the Reiki concepts and teachings with new symbols and new energy information, beginning with Fourth Degree Ascension Reiki.

In my teaching of Ascension Reiki, I have combined Ascension teachings with Shamanic teachings. With each level of Ascension Reiki, we move into higher levels of Ascension and deeper levels of Shamanism.

✨Today, we honour the life and legacy of Mikao Usui Sensei, born August 15, 1865, in Japan. Before he became known throughout the world as the founder of the Reiki system we practise today, Usui Sensei was a lifelong seeker of wisdom, knowledge and spiritual understanding. He explored Buddhist teachings, spiritual practices, medicine, psychology, philosophy and other traditions. He was a husband, a father, a teacher, and a student who continued to search for a deeper understanding of life.

His journey was not only about discovering Reiki. It was about his search for inner peace, spiritual understanding and a way to be of service to others.

In 1922, following a profound period of spiritual practice, fasting and meditation on Mount Kurama, Usui Sensei experienced the awakening that would lead him to develop and teach what became known as Usui Reiki Ryoho. He opened a clinic and began teaching Reiki in Tokyo. Usui taught Reiki as a path of personal development, spiritual practice and the cultivation of a peaceful and compassionate heart.

Among his students was Chujiro Hayashi, who became an important link in the transmission of Reiki. Hayashi continued teaching and practising Reiki and later taught Hawayo Takata, who would play a pivotal role in bringing Reiki to Hawaii and helping it spread throughout the Western world.

And so, the Reiki we practise today is part of a much larger story. A story that travelled from Japan across oceans and generations.

Usui Sensei passed away on March 9, 1926, while travelling to teach Reiki. Today, on his heavenly birthday, I feel deep gratitude for the life he lived, the wisdom he sought, the teachings he shared and the path he opened for so many of us.

Have you ever received Reiki outdoors, offered a Reiki treatment outdoors, or given yourself a self-Reiki balance outdoors?

I was looking at this picture today that Catherine, one of my Reiki Students, gave me. It is a picture of her giving a Reiki session outdoors.

While I was looking at the picture, I was reminded of the times I have given or received Reiki outdoors. I was also reminded that there is something so special when the healing energy of Reiki flows beneath an open sky on a beautiful, sunny day. The feel of the sun on your face, the warm breeze on your skin, the sky so expansive above. The trees feel like they are part of the healing. They are! Animal sounds seem to come at the perfect moment, their timing feeling meaningful. Perhaps a butterfly visits, or a fish jumps in the lake.

Nature becomes part of the healing, reminding us that everything is interconnected.
