🍎 A few weeks in… how are they really doing?
The backpacks are getting broken in, teacher names are becoming familiar, and hopefully most of the paperwork has made it back to school.
The sandwiches may be coming home untouched at the bottom of the lunch bag… but somehow the snacks are mysteriously always gone. 😂
Now can be a really good time to get curious.
Instead of only asking “How was school?” try opening the door a little wider:
“What was the best part of your day?”
“Was anything hard today?”
“Who did you spend time with?”
“Did anything make you laugh?”
Kids and teens don’t always tell us everything right away. Sometimes the best conversations happen when we ask, listen, and give them space to answer without immediately trying to fix it.
Curiosity helps us understand what’s happening in their world and reminds them that they have a safe place to bring the good stuff, the hard stuff, and everything in between. 🤍
And if “I don’t know” is the answer today… there’s always tomorrow.
