I've been a little quieter here for a while, and I wanted to tell you why.

I've stepped in as Interim Executive Director at

Riseup is a registered charity in Leduc. We support people affected by intimate partner violence with safety planning, counselling, and a place to actually be heard. We also support elders experiencing abuse, because that gets overlooked constantly and it shouldn't. If you want to see what real community impact looks like, follow . Then find out how to get involved.

We also run , a small cafe in Nisku. If you're by the airport, stop by Tuesday to Friday mornings, 8:30 to 1:00. Every coffee sold helps fund programs that give people back their independence and their voice. You might just cafe me there.

I'm still in private practice at working with kiddos and families. School season is ramping up, I hope to see you back in the therapy room soon!

Edmonton is the City of Festivals. Heritage Festival, Folk Fest, K-Days, The Fringe, there is always something going on. Crowds. Lineups. Noise. Unpredictable weather. It is a lot, even when it is fun.

You can be having a great time and be completely overstimulated. Both things can be true. You know your limit better than anyone else. Stepping away, skipping the finale or heading home early are small ways to take care of yourself.

You do not need a plan to connect with your kid.

No activity. No screen-free adventure. No Pinterest moment. It is the quiet moments. The ones where you stayed. Where you did not rush off or pick up your phone. Where they could feel that being with them was enough. That is connection.

If building that connection feels harder than it should, that is worth exploring. Link in bio.

If you have been putting it off, waiting for a better time, or just forgetting to look at your calendar, here is your sign to grab a spot.

It is easy to let mental maintenance slide to the bottom of the to-do list when life gets busy. Treating your therapy hour as a non-negotiable appointment is the best way to stay ahead of burnout.

Link to book is in my bio.

It feels personal. It is not.

Your kid is not lying awake plotting how to ruin your evening. When behaviour gets loud, it usually means a skill has not caught up yet. Waiting, sharing, losing, calming down. These take practice, not just reminders. A child who cannot do it yet is not the same as a child who will not do it. Once you see the gap as a skill they are still building, the moment stops feeling like a fight and starts looking like what it actually is. A chance to teach.

Screens are the easiest 'yes' in summer. And honestly, there is nothing wrong with that.

BUT kids also need unstructured time. It builds focus, creativity, and the ability to sit with boredom, which is a skill that matters way more than it sounds.

Here are a few ideas to mix it in when you have the space for it.

Save this for when you need ideas fast.

If this resonates, you’re not alone.
Parent burnout is more common than people admit.
It doesn’t mean anything is wrong with you.
It doesn’t say anything about how much you love your kids or how hard you’re trying.
It usually just means you’ve been carrying a lot for a long time.

Summer break is here. Some days that's a yay. Some days it's a nay. Both are normal.
New routine, new rhythm, everyone adjusting at once.
If it takes longer than a few days to settle, therapy can help.

Bedtime can feel like just one more thing to push through at the end of a long day.
And sometimes, there’s a quieter thought underneath the frustration.

I have to do this.
I get to do this.

Sexual violence is not a topic most of us learned much about growing up. Outside of a brief conversation about consent, it was largely kept quiet.

43% of Albertans have experienced sexual violence in their lifetime. That is not a small number. That is almost half the people around us, and most of them have never told anyone.

When someone we love does share their experience, most of us are not prepared for it. We freeze. We ask questions we should not ask. We push them toward what we think they should do. We pull away because we do not know what else to do. None of it comes from a bad place. But it causes harm, and survivors feel it.

How we respond to each other matters. Being the person someone feels safe enough to tell is not a small thing. Neither is knowing what to do with it.

If you are a survivor, you are not alone. Support is closer than it might feel right now. Resources are on the last slide.
