Here at Rising Above Ministries Slave Lake we practice something called the HELPS model, it is broken down like this:

H - Housing
E - Employment Readiness
L - Life Skills
P - Personal Development
S - Spiritual Formation

This is something that has been developed over the last twenty years and has been incredibly effective in aiding rising above in our mission of helping people overcome addiction, break cycles of defeat and find hope beyond brokenness since 2007 when it was started in Grande Prairie, AB.

There are two portions of the complete Rising Above program. The sober living housing and the office/ classroom space.

Right now in Slave Lake, we don't have our full program available to the community because we do not have the housing portion of our program that gives a safe place for our participants to practice sober living.

We do have the day program available to participants which allows them to access our employment readiness, life skills, personal development, inner healing and spiritual formation but anyone who enters our program right now has to find their own accommodations.

We have had our program open for people to use for the last two months and so far we have had to turn away many people who are interested in signing up for our program but are unable to find accommodations.

Ideally we would like to have two different residences, one for men and one for women so we can offer a safe, sober place for our participants to stay while they are in our six-month program.

We are doing our best to access funding that allows us to rent or purchase properties that we can use for our participants but right now there are limited properties available and we do not have the funding required to cover the costs associated with renting a space.

We would charge a fee of $500/ month for each participant to help cover some of the costs for having a home for them to stay in.

We are asking for help from the community, if you are interested in helping us solve this problem of housing please reach out to us via Facebook DM or you can email us at [email protected].

Rising Above Ministries Slave Lake is a six-month Christian based addiction recovery program.

Our mission is to help people overcome addiction, break free from cycles of defeat and find hope beyond brokenness.

We are a non-profit organization, working towards becoming a registered charity. The process for applying and receiving a charitable status can take well over a year.

Today we would like to talk about how funding works for a non-profit organization.

Funding for Canadian non-profit organizations relies on government grants, philanthropic foundations, and earned revenue.

Canadian non-profits must follow strict Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) rules requiring all profits to be reinvested into their core mission rather than distributed to individuals.

Government Funding can be either Federal, Provincial and/or Municipal Grants. Government funding often requires detailed reporting, a multi-year operating history, and formal incorporation status.

Only organizations with official registered charity status with the CRA can issue official tax receipts to donors, making it easier to attract individual philanthropic gifts.

The final way to receive funding is through earned revenue and social enterprise revenue generation. The CRA permits non-profits to generate revenue, charge fees for services, or run social enterprises as long as the activities connect directly to their stated non-profit purpose.

We have approached the Alberta government for funding and we were told that they have heavily invested into their own government programs and no additional funding is available outside of that for other organizations. We are still working on finding funding/ applying for the right grants to receive federal funding but we have been unsuccessful so far. We have applied for and have received funding from the municipal level.

We have been able to operate and get to where we are purely by the generosity of this community of Slave Lake. The local people and business that have given to our ministry is what has allowed us to keep going.

We want to take this time to say thank you to everyone who has supported us and continues to do so, we could not do this without you.

We are going to keep working hard on finding grants, reaching out to local businesses/ organization's and finding people that believe in what we do and want to help this region of Slave Lake to overcome addiction.

We would like to openly and publicly ask for more help and support on a provincial level from Scott Sinclair Danielle Smith Rick Wilson

We have been working hard for almost two years to get this recovery center up and running but without the proper funding we are limited in what we can do, how many people we are able to help and how long we can keep going.

Please pray for us and if you feel called to support us, please visit our website and follow the steps.

God bless all of you.

Deciding to get and stay sober is a major decision in life.

This is not an easy decision or journey to embark on. This is perhaps one of the most challenging things a human being can do, especially if they are very deep in addiction.

One of the biggest obstacles and set backs along this road to recovery is relapse. This means falling back to old ways of doing things and reaching for that addiction and breaking the sobriety streak.

Relapse does not mean failure and it does not mean that someone should give up. It means that there is something missing and there is an opportunity to improve.

Our treatment program is six months long, but sobriety is a life long pursuit. What happens when you get out of treatment and things get hard?

Here at Rising Above Ministries Slave Lake, we offer a relapse prevention plan to help people stay on track and identify when they need to reach out for help.

Here are some questions we ask when people are struggling with relapse:

The 3 stages of relapse:

- Emotional (How do I feel? -isolating -angry -irritable -etc.) Reach Out!

- Mental (Planning stage or rationalizing using again.) Reach Out!

- Physical (Using -How did I get here?) Stop..Reach Out!

- Personal triggers that put me at risk for using:

- Ways I will increase my self-care:

-Coping skills, I will learn or improve and how I will do this:

- Additional commitments that will help me stick to my Recovery Plan:

- Consequences that I agree to accept, should I break any of the above promises:

Having the right plan, people and resources available to you can make all the difference in the world while trying to maintain sobriety.

If you're struggling with relapse and feel like you are on a rollercoaster with your recovery, reach out to us today.

You are not alone in this journey, we are here to help you.

Please visit our website to learn more about who we are and what we do, the most important thing to do when you are struggling is reach out for help. ❤️‍🩹

Our mission with this ministry is to help people overcome addiction, break free from cycles of defeat and find hope beyond brokenness.

We can't do this without the generous financial support from the people and businesses of this community.

We are blessed to have one member who has pledged to match up to $1000 per month and has done so for many months.

It's this kind of support that helps us help people recover and be set free from addiction.

If you feel called to help support us in any way, whether a one time or monthly donation, please visit our website where it will guide you on how you can do that.

Thank you and God bless you 🙏✝️

Addiction is a vicious cycle that leaves us feeling broken, trapped and helpless. This is something that people struggle with their entire lives.

The question is, how do you break free and overcome addiction?

The short answer is, reach out for help. Very few people can win this battle on their own. Each person that wishes to stay sober must decide to start the long journey on the road to recovery.

The road to recovery is not a straight forward path, it's full of twists and turns, peaks and valleys and plenty of rough patches.

But along the way, you will be met with the most incredible, rewarding and life altering moments. If you continue down this process of reclamation you will reach a point in life that you never imagined possible.

Along the way there will incredible highs and crushing lows, there will be breakthroughs and setbacks, there will be triumphs and trials. Through all of it, there is only one thing to do.

Keep moving forward, one step at a time, one day at a time.

The first step of NA/ AA (Narcotics and Alcoholics Anonymous) is:

1. We admitted we were powerless over our addiction — that our lives had become unmanageable.

Until someone can get to a point where they realize they have a problem, they need help and they are willing to do the hard work and make the big changes in life to get and stay sober, there is no much that can be done.

Here at Rising Above Ministries Slave Lake we have our doors and our hearts open to help people overcome addiction, break cycles of defeat and find hope beyond brokenness.

We are here for when your ready to take that first step and start this journey of recovery, we are here to help you through hard moments and are happy to celebrate all the wins, we are here to help people heal, to learn and to grow into the best person they are capable of becoming.

We offer a six-month Christian based recovery day program. In our program we offer:

- Life Skills: This is a group classroom where we offer education on various subjects that help us learn and optimize the many areas of life. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 12pm.

- Case Management: This is a one-on-one process helping participants learn how to set and achieve their individual goals.

- Inner Healing: This is the core of our program, this is where we help people understand and deal with the root causes of the pain/ trauma that causes addictions/ self destructive behaviours.

If you are ready to take that first step, we are right here ready to walk with you. No one can do this work for you, but having the right people and the right resources available will make all the difference in being able to get to where you want to be and live a sober, fulfilling life.

Sign up for our day program today, it doesn't get easier to start and take that first step but it will get better and it will be worth it❤️‍🩹

Our doors are open for people to sign up for our day program.

Our mission is to help people overcome addiction, break free of cycles of defeat and find hope beyond brokenness.

Rising Above is an abstinence-based treatment program in Slave Lake, Alberta, offering a Christian-based 6-month day program to individuals trapped in a Cycle of Defeat. At Rising Above, you don't have to be a Christian to attend. In fact, most people who enroll in the program have little to no faith background at all!

This program helps to address a wide range of issues. Substance abuse is the most common, but the program also addresses anger issues, patterns of homelessness and criminal behavior, deep-rooted shame, anxiety, and any other forms of bo***ge a person may be struggling in.

Throughout the 6-month program, individuals will have the opportunity to build coping skills, strengthen resiliency, gain knowledge and practical tools in the Life-Skills classes, and have a safe space to work on deep rooted issues which are always based in pain and trauma.

If you want to participate in our program, you will be expected to refrain from all use of drugs and alcohol, and follow all program rules. To be eligible for this support, you must also partake in Rising Above's mandatory employment readiness training, life-skill classes and inner healing.

Our day program takes approximately 15 hours each week to complete the program requirements.

We are very excited to announce that this week we have began our first week of classes for our participants! 🥳

This is a huge milestone and a ton of work has went into getting to this point, we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone in the community that has supported us and helped us along the way.

Even though we are very excited to be where we are, there is still a lot of work to be done to get to where we want to go.

Our next goals are to continue to expand our program, raise funds and obtain sober living housing for our participants.

Having a safe place for our participants to stay while they are in our program is a very important part of Rising Above. We are committed to raising funds and finding the people that are interested in helping us find a location that we can rent or purchase to house our participants.

We are aiming to raise $250K to help manage operational costs and allow our staff members to commit to this recovery center full time.

We have our doors open and our program is available for anyone who is interested and is willing to go through our screening process.

If anyone is interested in helping us secure a sober living residence for our participants, donating to our ministry or if there is anyone interested in going through our six-month addiction recover program, we encourage you to visit our website where you can find all information related to our program, how you can contact us, how you can support us and how you can sign up.

Our mission is to help people overcome addiction, break cycles of defeat and find hope beyond brokenness. Please join with us to help transform lives and make the community of Slave Lake and area a better place 🙏❤️‍🩹
