The Team at Optometrists on Broadway/FYI Tillsonburg wants to take a moment to recognize the IMMENSE amount of help that we have received this summer from our Summer Optometry Student Molly!
Molly has learned all about pre-testing, visual fields, OCTs, Clarus photos and the basics of patient flow throughout the clinic. We could not have kept up with some of our busy days without her hard work, dedication, and friendly personality. 🥰
We hope that when Molly finishes in Optometry school, she will think of US as her next stop as a Full Time OD! 👩‍🎓

👦Why are men more likely to be colourblind than women?

🧬The colour-deficiency gene is recessive and carried by men.
It does get passed to daughters, but women are typically only carriers of this gene, passing it onto any sons they may have.
👧The only time a woman inherits the colourblind gene is when both mother AND father pass the gene onto her. This happens significantly less than men inheriting the gene themselves.

🌈Colour-deficient individuals have defective cones that detect colour in the back of the eye. It is not classified as an eye disease and has no impact on overall vision or eye health.

It's important to have your child's vision tested BEFORE they start the school year to ensure they are going into their education prepared and with proper vision.
Should your child be diagnosed with colour-deficiency, their teachers can be made aware and prepared to better help them learn.
