❗It's estimated that 30% of Canadians currently have myopia and it may rise to an estimated 50% by 2025!

🤳With lifestyles changing from kids playing outdoors to kids spending more time inside on things like tablets and phones, an increase in myopia has been seen.

📉There is no cure for myopia, but it can be controlled and slowed down.

👀MiSight contact lenses from CooperVision have a special lens design with a defocusing area on the outside of the lens to allow light to the back of the retina, but no clear image. The clear image comes from the central and front part of the lens only. This design signals to the eye to slow down.

Without proper Myopia treatment from your Optometrist, your child may be at an increased risk for things like:
🔴 Retinal Detachment
🔴 Early Cataract Development
🔴Glaucoma

Be sure your child is up-to-date with their annual eye exams.
With a valid OHIP card, your child qualifies for a FREE eye exam every 12 months up until the age of 20.

〰️Floaters or "specs" in your vision that look like little lines or squiggles are actually tiny particles of protein floating around inside the "gel" (called the vitreous) within your eye. Sometimes these floaters will float within your line of sight and become noticeable.

✅Floaters are completely normal (to an extent) and are common in just about everyone's eyes at some point or another. As we get older, the number of floaters in our vitreous usually increases and they become more noticeable.

❗If you notice a SUDDEN onset of floaters or a SUDDEN increase in the amount of floaters you see in your vision, you will want to contact your eye doctor immediately.
Sometimes a sudden increase or appearance in floaters in a very short amount of time can indicate a retinal hole/tear/detachment.
If you do not have your sudden floaters seen by an optometrist quickly, these retinal issues CAN cause permanent vision loss.

We encourage your regular eye exams because we want to ensure that your visual health is at its best! ✅
If you have anything that is cause for concern your Optometrist can catch and treat it early before it becomes a problem. 👎

Make sure to get your visual health checked on a regular basis! 🗓

🔸Children 19 years and younger should be seen once every 12 months.
🔸Healthy adults age 20-64 should be seen once every 2 years.
🔸Diabetic adults need to be seen once every 12 months to ensure they do not develop diabetic retinopathy.
🔸Seniors 65 and over should be seen once every 18 months with the new OHIP guidelines unless your Optometrist determines you need to be seen once every 12 months.

And the more prescriptions you have in your lenses (ie, progressive, bifocal, trifocal) the more strange things can feel at first.

👀Your vision isn't JUST your eyes.
🧠Your eyes and your brain communicate together to determine what exactly they are seeing.

With a new prescription, your brain quite literally needs time to re-adjust to what it's BEEN seeing to what it's NOW seeing.

🗓This is why your Optometrist will request that you try your new prescription glasses or lenses for at least 2 weeks before having your vision re-checked if necessary.
