Happy World PT Day!

Today we’re celebrating our physiotherapy teams in Kirkland Lake, Iroquois Falls, and Timmins and the difference they make every day in the lives of our clients and communities.

This year’s focus on cardiovascular disease and stroke is a great reminder of the important role physiotherapy and physical activity play in helping people prevent, manage, and recover from serious health conditions.
We’re proud of our PTs and the expertise, compassion, and commitment they bring to helping people move forward and live healthier, more active lives.

Thank you for all that you do!

ERGO CORNER: Is Your Workstation Working Against You?
Your desk setup may be contributing to discomfort without you realizing it.
Long hours at a computer, repetitive movements, and awkward reaching can contribute to neck, shoulder, back, and wrist discomfort over time.
A simple place to start?
Take a look at how your workspace is organized. The items you use most often should be the easiest to reach.
At Lyrette Physiotherapy, we can help identify factors contributing to your discomfort and provide practical strategies to help you work more comfortably.

MYTH: Rest is best for back pain.

While a short period of rest may sometimes be needed, prolonged inactivity can actually delay recovery. For older adults especially, extended bed rest may increase the risk of:
✔️ Joint stiffness
✔️ Muscle loss
✔️ Reduced bone density
✔️ Pressure ulcers
✔️ Blood clots

For most people with back pain, gentle movement and a gradual return to activity are important parts of recovery. Walking, mobility exercises, and progressive strengthening can help support recovery and maintain independence.

Always check with your physiotherapist or healthcare provider before starting or changing an exercise program to ensure it's safe and appropriate for your condition.

Experiencing back pain? Our physiotherapists at Lyrette Physiotherapy can help you develop a safe, personalized plan to support your recovery. We’re here to help.

Enjoy Summer Without the Aches! ☀️

Summer is the perfect time to get outside—but whether you're gardening, golfing, hiking, biking, or tackling home projects, it's easy to overdo it.

A few simple tips can help prevent injuries:
☑Warm up before activity.
☑Stay hydrated.
☑Lift with your legs, not your back.
☑Take regular breaks and avoid repetitive movements for long periods.
☑Stretch after you're done.

If pain is keeping you from enjoying your summer, don't ignore it. Physiotherapy can help you recover, improve mobility, and get back to doing what you love.

Today, our team at Lyrette Physiotherapy had the privilege of attending and sponsoring Bright Spot’s “Something to Say” Lunch.

This was far more than a fundraiser.

During the lunch, participants experienced what it’s like to communicate without speaking, using AAC tools such as communication apps, whiteboards, and visual supports. For many of us, it was a powerful reminder that communication is not limited to words, and that being truly heard often depends on patience, understanding, and accessibility.

As physiotherapists, we know how important connection and communication are to a person’s confidence, independence, and quality of life. Experiences like this deepen that understanding in a very real way.

We’re honoured to support Bright Spot and their work providing therapy scholarships for local youth who may not otherwise have access to services. Creating a more inclusive community starts with listening, learning, and making space for every voice — spoken or not.

Thank you to Bright Spot for such an impactful experience, and for the incredible work you continue to do in our community. 💛
