Lacking motivation? Ask yourself…

How do you wanna feel today and what do you need to do to get there?

My answer: « I wanna feel happy, confident, capable, stronger, less stressed and sometimes even with less physical pain »

And that’s exactly how exercise makes me feel. Remember when you just finished a workout and you felt so much better than before?

5 Mindset shifts to set your exercise journey for success!

✨⁠Find your Why?✨⁠
Find a motivation that comes from inside you, maybe look beyond the scale, how does exercise make you feel? how do you wanna feel? make it personal, dig deep.

✨ Start where you are ✨⁠
You don't have to have a certain level of fitness to start a workout program and develop a healthy routine.

✨ Small but consistent steps ✨⁠
You can start with small steps, such as being on your mat for 10 minutes a day.⁠ Consistency is the key 🔑, so set an attainable, realistic goal.

✨Give yourself some grace⁠ ✨⁠
Maybe you haven't been as consistent with your workouts as you would have liked or maybe you didn't meet a goal you had for yourself last month. You're not alone!⁠💕

Everyone's health journey is filled with ups and downs. Don’t expect your fitness journey to be “perfect”. Instead, plan ahead as much as you can!

A simple example, if you know that you are a morning person and that later on the day you just won’t make it, make it easy on yourself and schedule your workouts for the mornings and set yourself for success.

✨⁠Just show for yourself and embrace today as a fresh start.✨⁠

And listen to me, it’s OK to modify the exercises! Not all exercises are for everyone, pick the exercises that fit your body, instead of trying to fit your body into the exercise. Are you taking enough rest?

If you want to achieve progress, it’s key 🔑 to listen to your body & be kind to yourself

It can be hard to slow down, but if you are looking for progress you need to have some easy days too. Not only your body gets tired, your mind also does.

A rest day with some active recovery (e.g. walking, mobility work) can be just as beneficial, that another day of pushing your body to the max. Rest days allow your body to recover properly, avoid injuries and be able to stick to exercise in the long-term.

I’ve taken a few days of rest this week and I can feel how my mind and body are well rested and ready to have an amazing workout.

What do you need to do today to feel how you want to feel?

Ask yourself first, how you want to feel? and then decide what you need to do in order to feel that way.⁠⁣⁠⁠

Many times, feeling the way I want to feel means drinking more water, or taking a walk outside, or sometimes I just need to move and exercise my body.

This approach can help you stay motivated to do the things that will help you become your healthiest version.

Self-care involves identifying your own needs, and taking the steps to meet them. It also means taking the time to do the activities that nurture you, and treating yourself as kindly as you treat others.

Let’s talk about REPETITION!

It’s easy to think: I’ve done that exercise once, let’s move on to the next new exercise...BUT basic movements and repetition helps to:

✨Build a solid foundation of movement, strength and endurance.

✨ It takes thousands of repetitions for your nervous system to learn a new movement.

When learning a new movement you’ll focus on the choreography and coordination.

After practicing it for a while, you can focus more on the details and the mind-body connection.

✨ Track your progression. When the exercise becomes easier, after repeating it many times, it means you are ready to add a challenge.

Deadlifts are great BUT…

Deadlifts are known for working the hip extensors like the glute max and hamstrings (bum and leg muscles) but it also loads the back muscles. The problem comes when you try to load as much as you can the glutes, since these muscles can handle more load than your back muscles, which are more loaded (relative to capacity) in this exercise. So you can only lift the amount of weight that your back can handle, or you could be overloading the back muscles and risking to get Injured.

If you have a cranky low-back try modifying your deadlifts as shown in the video:

Don’t get me wrong I like deadlifts and I do them occasionally in my membership, but there are more effective exercises to work your hip extensors without risking your back.
