I don’t believe in sunscreen the way most people use it.
Not because I think burning is healthy or that UV damage is fake - it’s not.
But because the sunscreen industry has created an unhealthy view of the sun.
Sunlight does more than make vitamin D. It influences immune signaling, inflammation, mood, Circadian rhythm, and metabolic health. And research suggests that low sun exposure may be associated with higher risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and all-cause mortality.
My approach is not NEVER use sunscreen, it’s this:
-Get regular, short, non-burning sun exposure (as appropriate - check with your doctor if unsure)
-Avoid burns
-Use shade, hats, and clothing first
-Apply sunscreen when exposure will exceed your skin’s safe window
The sun is not the enemy… overexposure is.
What is your view on the sun/sunscreen??
