From **Table 1** to **Table 89.**

It sounds like a step backwards.

For Zabeen Hirji, it became one of the most important lessons of her career.

After retiring from a decades-long executive role, she realized something powerful:

✨ Your impact isn’t determined by where you’re sitting.
✨ Your title isn’t your identity.
✨ Your next chapter can be your most meaningful one yet.

This conversation is about so much more than retirement.

It’s about purpose.
It’s about letting go of ego.
It’s about redefining success on your own terms.

🎙️ Watch this clip from our latest episode of *foHRsight* and tell us:

**Have you ever had to redefine success for yourself?**

👇 We’d love to hear your story.

⚠️ WARNING: Laughter is contagious. Do NOT click on this video if you are not prepared to laugh. ⚠️

This is what happens when two people who genuinely love each other’s company try to start recording a podcast episode. Spoiler: it did not go well. Or maybe it went perfectly?

Rachel Cooke and I have been in the HR world long enough to know that if you can’t laugh at yourself (and at the absurdity of trying to sound professional when you’re already in a fit of giggles)… you’re probably in the wrong field.

Here’s the thing: HR doesn’t have to be so serious all the time. In fact, some of the best leadership conversations I’ve ever had started with a laugh.

And once we actually got our act together, the conversation with Rachel was genuinely one of my favourites. We talked about:

- Why the tug-of-war between performance and engagement is the wrong problem to solve
- The difference between certainty (impossible) and clarity (very possible)
- How leaders can harness frontline insight without adding more meetings, programs, or complexity
- Why work design might matter more than your next leadership development initiative
- The real opportunity HR has to stop separating ‘people stuff’ from business results

Rachel Cooke is the brilliant mind behind Lead Above Noise, the Modern Mentor Podcast, and the newsletter Making Work Work Better — and she brought both the smarts AND the spirit to this one.

Is AI simplifying work? Or is it intensifying it?

In this episode, Mark and Naomi unpack AI brain fry, cognitive fatigue, and the tension between efficiency and learning.

A timely one for HR leaders thinking about AI adoption with more intention.

If 2025 was about “”supercharging,”” 2026 is about sustaining.

The pace hasn’t slowed. Between the evolution of AI, shifting trust, and a workforce that feels increasingly disconnected, “”relentless”” has become the baseline. For HR leaders, the challenge has moved from driving performance to sustaining it without breaking the human system.

Join future foHRward and The Roundtable on April 29 (5 PM – 7 PM) for an intimate, interactive conversation among Senior HR Leaders.

Together, we’ll unpack:
+ The 6 macro trends defining 2026.
+ The real impact of global volatility on our people.
+ Top priorities for meeting employees where they are while maintaining high performance.

We’ve limited seats to keep the conversation impactful. Register now through our bio link!

Employee listening doesn’t have to mean surveys, forms, and long wait times.

AI opens up the possibility of hearing from people in their own words, at scale, and quickly, if it’s designed with intention.

This clip is a reminder that the future of HR isn’t about collecting more feedback. It’s about understanding it better.

“What if hiring is the last resort?”

This moment from our latest foHRsight episode captures a much bigger conversation about how work, growth, and HR strategy are changing in an AI era.

If you’re still being asked to scale by adding headcount — while also driving productivity and transformation — the full episode is essential listening.

Burnout is your system talking. Not a defect. Not a weakness.

When people are stuck in survival mode for too long, it’s a signal, like a gas gauge, that something needs attention.
Not more pushing. Not more coping. Better conditions.

Listening to burnout changes the conversation from “who’s struggling?” to “what needs to change?”

That’s where better work starts.

“Stop trying to put out the fire.”

Anxiety at work isn’t always a problem to solve.

Sometimes it’s a signal.

If someone says “I feel anxious,” the work isn’t always reassurance.

It’s curiosity.

What’s underneath it?
What’s at stake?
What’s asking for attention?

This reframe changes how HR supports people, and how much weight we carry ourselves.

Learning was never meant to be efficient.

As AI accelerates work, we’re at risk of automating the very experiences that teach judgment, resilience, and critical thinking, especially for early-career talent.

This clip is a powerful reminder:
speed builds output, but learning builds leaders.

Watch. Reflect. Then ask yourself what you’re optimizing for.

An insights that changes how you think about turnover.

In this episode of foHRsight, James Terry, Head of US Revenue at Indeed Flex, shares a real example where the problem wasn’t pay or engagement. A shift starts at 7:00 a.m. The bus arrives at 7:15.

That’s the kind of friction AI can surface when it’s used well. Not to replace people, but to help HR leaders see what’s actually getting in the way and make better decisions alongside operations.

James works at the intersection of technology, labor, and frontline reality, helping organizations manage staffing and scheduling at scale through Indeed Flex.

We go deeper into how AI can uncover these hidden drivers in the full episode.
