Why Breathing Is the Most Important Movement in Cerebral Palsy

We often think of breathing as just taking in air...
But in fascia therapy, breathing is movement.
And it’s the most powerful one your child is doing—24/7.

Swipe through this post to learn:
💚 How breathing feeds the fascia (the “jello” that holds your child’s structure together)
💚 Why chest expansion matters for spine, hips, and posture
💚 How the diaphragm supports digestion, calm, and pelvic development
💚 And what happens when your child’s breath is shallow or uneven (spoiler: it affects everything)

Breath is the first internal rhythm we work with in WeFlow.

That’s why the very first fascia exercise we teach parents starts with the torso.

It’s a beautiful place to begin—simple, powerful, and designed to help your child build from within.

Your child is already breathing. Let’s make that breath work for them.

Constipation is one of the most common struggles for kids with CP, but the missing piece isn’t always diet—it’s often the fascia.

When the torso has the right tensional support, the digestive system works more smoothly and p**p can finally move through.

Start today with The #1 Fascia Exercise to Improve Torso Control and see how strengthening the torso can change everything.

Many parents fear scoliosis because of the “curve.” But the curve is not the first problem—it’s the fascia system collapsing.

When fascia is strong, the spine feels supported and breathing keeps it flexible. When fascia is weak, the spine struggles to hold itself and scoliosis shows up as the consequence.

In The #1 Fascia Exercise to Improve Torso Control workshop, parents learn how to feed the fascia so the spine can hold and move with more ease.

Breathing begins in the torso.

When the torso is stable, the diaphragm moves freely, and the whole body benefits.

That’s why the first fascia exercise I teach parents starts with torso control.

It’s simple. It’s powerful. And it can change everything for your child.

We want our children’s feet to move with ease… yet many spend hours locked in rigid AFOs.

Here’s the paradox: movement feeds fascia, and fascia feeds function.

When the feet are blocked, the body doesn’t stop—it compensates. That’s why you might notice:
⚠️ Red marks after removing AFOs
⚠️ Shiny, tight skin
⚠️ Hips or knees working overtime

These aren’t just surface signs. They’re the body’s way of saying: “I need freedom to move.”

In my newest blog, I explain why freeing the feet—even for short breaks—can change everything, and I share simple micro-movements you can start using today to support your child’s fascia.

When a child with cerebral palsy can’t move their feet freely, the body doesn’t stop—it compensates.

What you might see as red marks or tight hips are actually signs of the fascia working overtime to create stability.

By freeing the feet (even for short moments), we allow fascia to do what it does best—support the body naturally.

The result? Less strain on the knees, hips, and torso, and more comfort for your child.

In The #1 Fascia Exercise to Improve Torso Control workshop, I’ll teach you gentle ways to support your child’s body from the inside out—no force, no stretching, just fascia-based freedom.

You've been trying so hard to lengthen those tight muscles. Stretching every day. Holding for 30 seconds. Hoping something shifts.

And I know how much effort that takes. How much you want it to work.

Here's what I learned after years of doing exactly what you're doing: stretching tight muscles in cerebral palsy often doesn't create the lasting change we're hoping for. And it's not because you're doing it wrong.

It's because tight muscles aren't actually the problem. They're the response.

When your child's body doesn't have deep support from within, when the core isn't strong yet, the nervous system does the only thing it can. It tightens the muscles. This tightness is the body's way of holding itself up.
It's the nervous system creating stability because it can't find it anywhere else.

So when we stretch, we loosen the tightness for a little while. But the moment your child moves or stands, the muscles tighten again. Because the real problem hasn't changed.

Real change comes from giving the fascia what it needs to become stronger and more organized on the inside.

Small movements. Gentle pressure. Weight bearing. Rhythm.

These are simple techniques. They're based on how the body actually works. And you can learn them at home.

Ready to understand why this approach is different?

W-sitting is one of the most misunderstood positions—especially for children with cerebral palsy.
It’s not a “bad habit.” It’s the body finding balance in the best way it can.

Instead of correcting your child every time they sit in a W, you can focus on adding movement variety—soft, fascia-friendly changes that invite freedom instead of forcing posture.

In my latest blog, I share how to reframe W-sitting with compassion, what it reveals about your child’s development, and easy ways to support the hips, fascia, and torso—without interrupting play.

So many parents tell me:
👉 “My child’s hamstrings are so tight.”
👉 “The knees keep collapsing.”
👉 “The feet just won’t stay flat.”

They’ve tried stretching, Botox, even surgeries… and yet the tightness returns.

Here’s what I’ve learned after years of working with families:
The legs are not the problem. They’re a reflection of what’s happening in the torso.

In my newest blog post, I explain how fascia and core stability play a much bigger role in leg alignment than most people realize.
