Should you change your Facebook name before applying for a program or a job interview? This was a really common question that came up in medical school when we were applying for residency positions, but I think it's applicable to any important application process!

I polled some of my doctor friends so you can hear lots of different opinions on this controversial topic! haha

COMMENT and let me know... would you change your Facebook name?

In this video I share the scariest moments I've experienced so far as a first year internal medicine resident!

For those of you who have watched my previous videos, you know how passionate I am about medicine and how exciting it has been to start residency! But for all the great experiences, there have also been some very real challenges that you encounter as you gain more responsibility and the expectations become higher.

I'll be describing some real scenarios and it may be a bit graphic, so let me know if it’s too much for you! *

10 TIPS for STARTING Medical School

Here are 10 things I WISH I had been told when I started medical school. Congratulations to all of you who just started this amazing journey!!

When I started med school, I wanted someone to tell me how to set myself up well for residency applications. So I decided to include some info in this video. BUT just to be clear... there's no need to stress or plan at this point, because you really do have lots of time! I just want you to have info to help set yourself up for success!

TIPS:
1) Learning resources – don’t just buy a bunch of textbooks
2) Forgetting and relearning is completely normal – don’t get discouraged
3) Take notes using a platform easily accessible on your phone
4) Medical School Syndrome – it will happen to you!
5) Collaborate with your classmates – don’t create a competitive environment
6) Get involved from the beginning
7) What specialty is for you? – starting thinking about it early on
8) Self-care – medicine is a marathon not a sprint
9) Make time for hobbies
10) Ask for help when you need it – lets break down stigma

Have you ever thought to yourself "what are those doctors saying?"
In this video I’m going to let you in on the secret language of doctors… learn the fancy medical terms for normal english words!

These are just a few examples, but there are MANY others!
I'm hoping this helps illustrate how important it is to communicate clearly with patients and the language barrier that can build up between doctors and patients.

COMMENT below to let me know if you've heard any other strange medical terms from your doctor or in the media!

The first half of this video talks about my POST-CALL ROUTINE and then I'm joined by AMAZING doctors/friends who share their post-call routines and GUILTY PLEASURES!

Being on call for 26 hours is exhausting... we then get the next day off, which is called a "post-call day". It's always a balance between sleeping, trying to get things done and indulging in treats!

Thank you to all the residents who collaborated on this video - it was so much fun to hear what you do outside the hospital on your day off!

Let me know - what's your guilty pleasure post call??

This is a requested video about how I manage STRESS or feeling overwhelmed IN THE MOMENT. Life as a doctor or life as a medical student (or actually life as a high school and university student!!) can get really busy and overwhelming with a million different obligations. I used these strategies in undergrad, medical school and now in residency. They aren't hard to do - the key is to ACTUALLY use them when you are stressed in the moment!

Hope you find it useful!
