What makes you feel more like you?
I’ve been thinking about this question differently lately. Not what makes me more productive, more regulated, more accomplished - or even more healed.

But the ordinary things that make me notice:
There I am.

A certain song, being outdoors, making something with my hands, being around someone I don’t have to work so hard.

Maybe developing a relationship with ourselves also means getting to know what brings us closer to our own aliveness.

Not as another thing to get right. Just noticing.
What has been making you feel more like you lately?

Your body doesn’t need to become another thing you learn to manage well.

For me, somatic work is about developing a relationship with yourself. Learning - or perhaps remembering - how to attune to what is happening inside you, and from there begin to recognize what you want, what you don’t want, and what matters to you.

Sensation, movement, breath, boundaries, rest, activation - they’re not the end goal. They’re ways of meeting yourself.

Not because the body always has the answer. But because you are there too. And the more we learn to stay in relationship with ourselves, the more of us becomes available for the choices we make and the lives we live.

More range. More choice. More of you.

We don’t always notice when we leave ourselves.

Sometimes we’re simply very good at continuing.

Continuing the conversation.
Doing what needs to be done.
Taking care of everyone else.
Saying it’s fine before we’ve had a chance to notice that perhaps it isn’t.

For me, this work isn’t about staying perfectly connected to myself.

It’s about becoming more familiar with the way I disappear.

And maybe noticing a little sooner:

Oh. There I go.

And from there, there is the possibility of returning.

Not perfectly.
Just a little more often ❤️

Oh, how I miss my son.

He has a smile that softens your heart, eyes that spark, and when he opens the door for me, or wraps his arms around me and says, “I love you, äiti,” I feel his blueprint in this world.

And oh, how my heart is stretching right now. So much that sometimes it hurts.

Stretch marks.

I got them when he was growing inside me. My body stretching to make room for this person I had not yet met, but already loved beyond anything I knew.

And now, eighteen years later, he is stretching me from the inside in completely new ways.

To let him go.
To let him become.
To miss him and still want him to go toward everything that is calling him.

Maybe these are the stretch marks no one can see.

The ones our children leave on our hearts as they grow beyond the edges of the life we shared with them.

Because love doesn’t end when they leave.

It grows.
It expands.
It widens.

Until somehow, painfully and beautifully, it becomes big enough to carry both of us toward our dreams.

Even when those dreams take us far from one another. ❤️

Choice doesn’t always look like a big decision. So much of choice happens in much smaller moments before the automatic response takes over.

A little more space to feel.
A little more of you available.

What do I want?
What becomes possible from here?

This is the kind of choice I’m interested in 🤍

I’m not trying to teach you how to be calm all the time.

I’m interested in what becomes possible when you can stay connected to yourself through more of what life brings.

Anger. Pleasure. Exhaustion. Excitement. Connection. A clear no. A wholehearted yes.

Can you feel what is happening and still have enough of yourself available to choose what comes next?

More range. More choice. More of you.
This is much of what we explore in all of my somatic work 🤍

Last week I had the privilege of assisting at the Somatic Experiencing training here in Finland.

There is something deeply moving to me about witnessing this work take root in my homeland.

Perhaps because I recognize something in us.

We know how to endure.

And I’m becoming increasingly interested not only in what helps us survive - but in what allows us to remain connected to our aliveness along the way.

I’ve spent more than 20 years working with bodies, and there are moments when the work feels like it reaches somewhere beyond what I know how to name.

This is the soul’s work for me.

Not because we are trying to transcend the body, but almost the opposite.

We come more deeply into it.
More deeply into ourselves.
Into what has always been there beneath all the ways we learned to endure.

Maybe that is why this work continues to move me so deeply.

Not becoming someone new.
Remembering more of who we already are 🤍

Somatic work isn’t always about calming down.

Sometimes we need support to stay with activation long enough to discover what is there.
A boundary. Anger. A movement. A voice. A want. A no.

In my work - 1:1 or a group - we begin with a theme you want to explore. We can talk about it and we also pay attention to what happens in your body as we do.

Sometimes we slow things down. Sometimes we move toward more activation.

The aim isn’t calm. It’s more capacity and choice.

Sometime we don’t realize how much we’re holding because we’ve become so good at carrying it.

We might notice it in the exhaustion that rest doesn’t quite touch.
In the irritation that comes more quickly.
The difficulty receiving.
Or simply feeling a little further from ourselves.

What might become possible if we didn’t have to hold quite so much?
More space. More choice. More aliveness.

I currently have space for new 1:1 clients in Ullanlinna, Helsinki and online 🤍
