An RCT involving 500 participants suggested that an oral lavender preparation, Silexan, had an 'independent, direct antidepressant effect'. The study showed decreased symptoms of depression, including 'apparent and reported sadness, decreased appetite, concentration difficulties and lassitude'. The effects were comparable to the drug Sertraline. In previous studies Silexan reduced anxiety symptoms and improved depression.
