Tatyana Ali is turning one of the hardest days of her life into advocacy. In an NPR interview published September 13, 2026, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star described the birth of her first son in 2016. "It went from a small group of people in the room to many people in the room screaming, yelling at me," she said. "I was held down by about four people."

Ali has since become a voice in the movement to improve maternal health outcomes for Black and Indigenous mothers. She speaks at conferences across the country, encourages medical teams to acknowledge and address bias, and supports midwife-centered care. "The solutions exist now," she said. Did you feel heard and supported during childbirth?
