When someone we love is grieving, food is often the first way we think to help. A casserole, a batch of soup, a homemade meal delivered without needing a reason. Comfort food matters because it takes one small task off a grieving person's plate during a time when even simple decisions can feel overwhelming.
But food is just one way to show up. Support can also look like:
- Doing a specific chore without being asked, like mowing the lawn or picking up groceries
- Sitting with someone in silence, without trying to fix how they feel
- Sending a text weeks or months later, when most people have stopped checking in
- Simply saying their loved one's name out loud, instead of avoiding it
Grief support does not have to be complicated. It just has to be consistent.
What is something someone did for you during a hard time that you will never forget?
