We spend so much of our time somewhere other than where we actually are.

Replaying what happened.
Worrying about what might happen.
Planning, predicting, regretting, rehearsing.

And meanwhile, this moment is passing.

The past can’t be changed.
The future isn’t here yet.

But right now, you can pause.
You can breathe.
You can choose your next response.
You can take one small step.

You may not have power over everything happening around you.

But you have some power over what you do with this moment.

And sometimes, that is enough.

Since becoming a mother, I’ve thought a lot about the things I hope my child grows up knowing.

And the more I think about it, the more I realize these aren’t things I want only for my child.

They’re things I hope every child gets to believe about themselves.

That they don’t have to be perfect to be loved.
That their feelings aren’t too much.
That they can have boundaries.
That asking for help doesn’t make them weak.
That they don’t have to make everyone happy to be worthy of love.

Because children learn about themselves through the way we respond to their emotions, needs, boundaries, mistakes, and even their joy.

And what they learn early can sometimes stay with them for a very long time.

Every child deserves to grow up knowing they never have to earn their worth.

And for every adult who is still learning this about themselves, too.

Power is not always loud.

Sometimes it quietly changes what people believe they are entitled to.

Over time, it can shape both sides of a relationship—one person learns they never have to explain themselves, while the other learns to stay silent to keep the peace.

Healthy relationships don’t need one person to feel smaller for another to feel bigger. 🤍

We often spend so much energy trying to push feelings away.

“I’ll deal with it later.”

“I’m fine.”

“It’s not a big deal.”

Sometimes that works—for a while.

But feelings don’t always disappear just because they’re ignored.

They can build quietly until they begin to show up in ways we didn’t expect.

Expression doesn’t have to be loud.

Sometimes it’s a conversation with someone you trust.

Sometimes it’s writing in a journal.

Sometimes it’s simply being honest with yourself about what you’re carrying.

Your feelings don’t need to control you.

But they do deserve somewhere safe to go.

I read about the rubber and glass balls analogy today- the idea that not everything we hold in life is the same.

Some things can fall and bounce back.

The laundry.
The dishes.
The unfinished list.
The things I keep telling myself I need to get done.

They will still be there.

But some moments don’t come back the same way.

This little version of my daughter…
watching the lights, being held close, seeing the world with wonder…

I only get this once.

And motherhood keeps reminding me that not everything deserves the same urgency.

Some things can wait.

Moments like this cannot. ❤️
