I can feel myself standing at a new threshold.
I’ve been travelling to sacred sites, having many mystical experiences and learning from many for years now.

Something is ending.
Something is beginning.
And neither needs a name yet, or maybe at all.

For so long, I thought expansion meant becoming more.

Now I know the deeper initiation is letting go of who I thought I needed to become. The integration of everything has brought me to a threshold.

No map.
No certainty.
Just trust.

I’m ready.

You have boundaries that are meant to protect you, but how far are you willing to stretch those boundaries for an exhilarating experience or potentially positive experience? And NO, it’s not me repelling the waterfall as this is for experienced repellers only. But it may be me next summer!

Watching the sun rise over the mountains in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean I feel both tiny and infinite. It’s so mesmerizing to watch and I find it hard to look away as there’s awe in every moment.

There’s a very magical place we call “the special place” across the street from our Madeira home away from home. My husband proposed here 29 years ago and asked me to renew our vows last year in front of our girls and their partners. This black lava rock will always hold a special place in my heart. Now there’s a little restaurant here so you can have incredible drinks and food at sunset listening to live music while watching the waves of the ocean.

The Black Sand Beach in Seixal is a very popular beach for tourists. I enjoyed people watching and listening today. I especially loved how carefree, happy and friendly people were from all over the globe. Made me feel so refreshing to be away from North American politics. Just people being people.

Walking through Fanal Forest in Madeira feels like stepping into another world. Some of these ancient, twisted trees are more than 600 years old, standing here long before the Portuguese arrived in 1419, within a Laurissilva forest whose roots stretch back some 20 million years. Madeira has 39 officially classified hiking trails, along with hundreds of unofficial levadas, ancient footpaths and mountain trails weaving across the island. In fact, Madeira is crisscrossed by roughly 3,000 km of ancient levadas, with more than 2,000 km that can be explored on foot. And all of this exists on an island that is only about 57 km long and 22 km wide, covering just 741 km². There’s something deeply healing about being here… surrounded by mist, ancient trees, mountains and the sound of nature. It reminds me that the Earth carries an energy and wisdom far older than we are, and I’m continually humbled by it.

Tales from the backseat of the iron horse in Yellowstone National Park…

Navigating Yellowstone as a motorcycle passenger is basically an exercise in staying calm while quietly wondering if the two-ton bison beside you thinks your leather jacket is a threat, a challenge, or possibly a romantic invitation. My job is simple: sit still, don’t make any sudden movements, and try not to become part of a Yellowstone incident report.

Then there’s the scenery. You’re riding past bubbling sulfur pits that smell like Satan is cooking breakfast, and every instinct in you wants to point, turn around, take a picture, or yell, “LOOK AT THAT!” except one enthusiastic arm gesture could potentially upset the bike and send both of us straight into a thermal vent. And honestly, I have no desire to become the cautionary tale they tell tourists at the visitor centre.

The real test, though, is the wildlife traffic jams. Nothing prepares you for a rental minivan or photo enthusiast slamming on their brakes in the middle of the road because someone spotted what may or may not be an elk approximately three miles away. Suddenly I’m using every abdominal and leg muscle I have trying not to launch over my husband’s shoulders and land in a crowd of tourists wearing socks with sandals. Yellowstone is beautiful, majestic, spiritual… and apparently also a full-body core workout. I highly recommend it as it’s definitely worth the drive through.
