🚸 Is your child's speech developing on track? 🚸
Speech and sound development milestones help guide us in understanding when children typically start using certain sounds. Here's what you should look for at different ages:
👶 2-3 Years Old: Your child may begin saying /p/, /b/, /m/, /n/, /t/, and /d/ sounds in words.
🧸 3-4 Years Old: Sounds like /k/, /g/, /f/, /s/, /y/, and /h/ often start to emerge. Speech may still be somewhat unclear, but these sounds should be developing.
🎨 4-5 Years Old: Sounds like /sh/, /ch/, /j/, /z/, /l/, and /v/ are typically added to their speech repertoire. By this age, most speech is expected to be clear to listeners.
🏃 5-6 Years Old: Speech should generally be clear and easy to understand. Some challenges with "r" and "th" sounds can still be typical.
💡 When to Be Concerned:
If your child is not producing these sounds within the expected age range or their speech is difficult to understand, it may indicate a speech delay. Early intervention is crucial to supporting your child’s communication skills. If you have concerns, don’t hesitate to consult a speech therapist.
