Happy BPD Awareness Month 🤍
If you had asked me when I first started my master's program if I would ever finish school, or my entire life, I would have replied no. At the time, it was impossible to complete a single day, let alone a whole course load.
Nonetheless, my master's program gave me inspiration. It provided me more courage to speak up to my colleagues about my mental health and various parts of my life. When asked why we wanted to become therapists, I always answered honestly.
Private discussions from students and colleagues ensued, in which they disclosed their partners, family, clients, and even their diagnosis, and I received notes from them expressing how much they needed my honesty and how much I helped them. I am convinced that increasing understanding and developing sustainable ways of life begins with honesty in our communities, businesses, classrooms, and within ourselves.
At times, the journey was rather upsetting. But it was also inspiring. When we talk about Marsha Linehan and the concept of creating "a life worth living," I believe we can see how this route has done exactly that for me. It has led me to a greater purpose. The more I develop, the more I realize there is only one way forward for me: to meet myself honestly and freely, and to believe in myself enough to continue and never give up.
