Four exercises to help you LENGTHEN and DOWN REGULATE your pelvic floor.

Notice how all of these exercises incorporate breathing? To ensure we’re having an impact at the nervous system level, remaining relaxed in these stretches is KEY 🔑

We want the level of stretch to be meetable. That means, if there’s any pinching or resistance to hanging out in any of these positions, they’re not a good fit for you. For muscles to let go, they need to feel comfortable and safe to do so. Using the breath can be a useful tool, but if there’s any guarding, it can actually be counterproductive.

Give all of or some of these a go and let me know what you think!

Unlock your back body with these 3 posterior ribcage and thoracic spine openers 👇🏼

1️⃣: Thread the Needle Hold
With this one, ensure you breathe into the region of stretch to get the most out of it. Hang out for a few breaths.

2️⃣: Rabbit Pose
Using your grip on your heels as leverage to actively pull yourself into spinal flexion. Try to tuck your pelvis to promote more flexion by squeezing your glutes and core. Hold at the top for 5-10 seconds, repeat for 2-3 rounds.

3️⃣: Modified Child’s Pose
Using a pillow or bolster tucked in towards your hips, sit back into your child’s pose. From here, try to direct your breathing into your back. Hang out for a few breaths.

Give these a go and let me know what you think!

An exciting announcement to share! ✨

Since completing my internal assessment and treatment course in May, I have since received certification from my governing body to start incorporating internal-based pelvic floor work into my physiotherapy practice.

Though not always required for an effective pelvic floor treatment plan, there are times where an internal assessment and treatment can be super helpful in the rehab process.

Please note, internal work is never mandatory as part of your pelvic floor physiotherapy care. There are plenty of alternative ways we can gather information regarding the state of the pelvic floor without the need to incorporate internal. But for those that are comfortable and keen on getting a more in depth assessment, I am excited to be able to provide this service as an add on to my practice.

Pelvic Health physiotherapy is available through the JaneApp (link in bio).

In this course we explored the ins and outs of caesarian delivery and specific rehab considerations for this population.

How can physiotherapy help with your C-Section journey?
✨support leading up to delivery for aches and pains, exercise modification, education around expectations for the birthing experience and advice for postpartum recovery
✨ postpartum rehabilitation to support your muscles, ligaments and joints following this major abdominal surgery
✨treatment that targets scar healing and education for optimizing scar healing at home
✨ guidance for safe return to exercise and ultimately safe return to the activities that you enjoy

And more!

Contrary to what instagram or google might tell you — kegels are NOT the answer to every pelvic floor issue.

Like any muscle in the body, sometimes muscles need LENGTH rather than STRENGTH.

4 signs your pelvic floor might be TIGHT 👇🏻

1️⃣ feeling a sudden, or strong urge to urinate and/or urinating frequently

2️⃣ pain with sexual arousal or sexual in*******se

3️⃣ stiffness in the hips or low back that don’t seem to be responding to back or hip specific treatment

4️⃣ difficulty emptying your bowel and/or bladder and feeling like you need to strain to do so

Big things are coming! ✨

As I make this transition to more independence in my practice, I look forward to integrating myself into the community and building more reciprocal relationships with my fellow small businesses.

Behind the scenes I have been working tirelessly to get myself set up for you in the new space, and also beginning more networking initiatives.

The beauty of being in a small community is you get the opportunity to foster strong relationships with your neighbours. I have never been a big fan of models that look at other similar businesses as “competitors”. I don’t believe one clinic can ever be a “one stop shop” as we all have our limitations. It is such a luxury to have other practitioners with differing skill sets to refer to. Never will I be a “master” at all physio techniques - but what I can do is do my best to find the best fit for you when my service offerings become limited.

Looking forward to sharing more as more pieces fall into place.

Leakage, heaviness and discomfort may be “common”, but they are also very treatable! Pelvic floor physio can be an effective treatment to help you enjoy running with more confidence and comfort.

How does the pelvic floor play into running?

1️⃣ Increased Performance: Your pelvic floor is part of your core system. When it’s working well, it helps transfer force efficiently through your body — meaning better power, stability, and running economy.

2️⃣ Better Load Management: Running is high impact. A well-coordinated pelvic floor and surrounding hip musculature help you absorb and respond to those forces with each stride, reducing strain on your body over time. You’d do plyometrics for your legs, why not your pelvic muscles!?

3️⃣ Increase Confidence: When you trust your body, you train differently. Pelvic floor rehab can help you run without fear of symptoms allowing you to focus on the enjoyment of running, not your limitations.

As a physiotherapist, I don’t work FOR you, I work WITH you. My approach to rehab is one built around core values such as - autonomy, empowerment, sustainability and integrity.

What does that mean? Although I have many years of education in the field of rehab science and 1000s of hours of clinical experience - at the end of the day, you know your body best. My job as a physio is to help foster autonomy to allows you to claim sovereignty over your health. With the tools and education pieces I share in our sessions, my hope is that you actually GET BETTER, and don’t feel like you need me forever.

The human body is capable of incredible things, and building a movement practice is one of the many ways we prove to ourselves just how capable we are. Nothing lights me up more than guiding others to reach their potential through encouragement and support during their rehab journey.

Another biggie for me is - an effort needs to be made to make rehab fun. If I am not trying to find exercises that feel approachable and enjoyable for you, or actually feel good in your body, I’m failing at my job. When vibes are low, so is motivation, and so is long term adherence and success.

What spiked my interest to explore pelvic floor physio?

As a movement-focused physio, I’ve always believed you can’t truly treat the body in isolation—and that includes the pelvic floor. It’s a key part of how we move, stabilize, breathe, and generate force, yet it’s often overlooked in rehab and performance.

My decision to pursue training in pelvic floor physiotherapy is also personal. As a former high-level athlete, I’ve experienced pelvic floor symptoms myself—Looking back, I can see how much this kind of service would have complimented my training routines.

Pelvic health issues are incredibly common, yet many people struggle in silence or don’t realize support is available. I wanted to deepen my knowledge so I can better support my patients, bring more awareness to this area, and help people feel stronger, more confident, and more in control of their bodies.

At this time I offer non-internal pelvic floor physio for the treatment of: urinary incontinence, pregnancy support, postpartum recovery, mild prolapse and non-complex pelvic pain.
