You never know when you may use your first aid skills.

Two guards at Peggys Cove are being commended for their quick actions. Amandeep Singh and Prabhleen Singh responded to the Peggys Cove Black Rocks area on May 23. Amandeep performed CPR on an unconscious 16-year-old, helping restore the youth’s breathing with support from a nurse. Prabhleen assisted at the scene until emergency services arrived. Amandeep said first aid and CPR training gave them the confidence to act quickly, noting emergencies can happen at any time. The guards at the famous lighthouse help keep visitors safe through education, communication and on-site intervention.

NOTE: This was not a water rescue, the guards and nurse responded to a visitor experiencing a medical emergency.

On Thursday the Salmon River Fire Brigade membership held their annual general meeting for 2025. This was another busy and productive year as a fire service to the community of Salmon River.

This meeting was also our election night for the executive team for 2026.

An important recall for those who have been prescribed Emerade auto injectors.

Health Canada is urging people to take their Emerade auto-injectors to their pharmacies as soon as possible to get a replacement.
