We’re excited to share the new look and new website for Sam I Am Autism Services. Sam I Am has always been about making children feel accepted and comfortable, and making ABA therapy fun and engaging. Which is why our new brand is playful, welcoming, and expressive.

We’ve spent the past few months refining our goals and vision for Sam I Am and we want to make it as simple as possible for parents to find and connect with us.

My journey from becoming a Behaviour Analyst almost 20 years ago to starting Sam I Am Autism Services has always been centred around my desire to help children on the autism spectrum develop truly meaningful skills and learn strategies to support their unique needs.

At Sam I Am, we believe in a flexible ABA approach so we can support every child right where they are. It’s never about fitting a child into a mold, but rather helping them learn and grow on their own terms, in their own way.

The growth of Sam I Am is something we feel truly honoured to share with our community here in Northumberland County and surrounding areas.

We’ve grown as more and more families are recognizing the need for unique, highly individualized, specialized support, and compassionate guidance.

That’s also why we’ve shifted to make it easier to find our team and understand exactly how we can work with you and your child.

😡Can your child tell you why they are mad?

An important part of helping a child navigate their emotions is knowing what is wrong.
Sometimes it is obvious.
Sometimes it isn’t.

If a child can tell you why they are upset, it makes it much easier to support them.

Ask your child what makes them mad.
Can they tell you?
If they can’t, it may be something you want to teach.
It is one of many skills that can help with emotional regulation.

The words we use can shape how a child understands themselves — and they deserve language that feels safe and respectful.

Neurodiversity‑affirming language reminds us that autistic brains aren’t problems to solve. They’re simply different ways of experiencing the world.

When we shift our language, we create space for children to feel understood and valued.

Small language shifts families often find helpful:

✨ “Sensory needs” instead of “sensory issues”
✨ “Communication differences” instead of "communication deficits”
✨ “Support needs” instead of “low/high functioning”

These small changes can make interactions feel more compassionate and grounded.
