Today is World Su***de Prevention Day, and whether it’s through crisis support, training, or ongoing mental health community programs, our team is committed to providing support that’s close to home.

If you or someone you know is in crisis, our Crisis Services are available 24/7.

- COAST, our 24/7 crisis line, connects you with a Crisis Intervention Worker for support and guidance. (1-877-825-9011)

- Our Community Response Team provides in-person support within 24 hours.

- Our 9-8-8 Su***de Crisis Helpline provides immediate support by phone or text.

Prevention also means building skills before a crisis happens. Our ASIST training teaches people how to recognize when someone may be at risk and respond with confidence.

Whether you're looking for crisis support, training, or ongoing mental health community programs, visit our website to learn more ways we’re here to help.

If you are in crisis and talking feels like too much, you can text 9-8-8 anytime for free and confidential support, day or night.

CMHA Halton is a proud partner in 9-8-8, Canada's Su***de Crisis Helpline. We're glad to share that we now offer text support through SMS alongside calls, giving people another way to reach out in whatever way feels most comfortable, including many younger people who'd rather text than talk.

September is Su***de Prevention Month, a time to talk openly about mental health and su***de, and make sure people know where to turn.

In Halton, help is always available. We’re here.

When someone is in crisis, they need confidence. Confidence that care is available. And that the care they need is evidence-based, meets the highest standards, is safe and effective.

Accreditation Canada provides that confidence by rigorously examining how care providers operate—the programs, the services, the policies, the way staff show up for the people they serve.

For the second time, CMHA Halton has been Accredited with Exemplary Standing, the highest standing awarded.

This means that our clients and our community partners can trust that the mental health and addictions treatment we provide not only meets but exceeds national standards. They can rest assured that we have the structure in place to adapt as community needs shift, creatively clear barriers and make care easier to access across Halton.

We’re very proud to have earned this Exemplary standing for the second time. Because for everyone on our team, earning accreditation at this level isn't a finish line. It's a bar that we continue to pursue every day for our clients, their families and the Halton community.

People who use substances or live with addiction are our family members, friends, neighbours and colleagues. They are people with full lives, relationships and communities around them and this day acts as a reminder (to all of us) that their experiences should be met with dignity and access to care.

International Overdose Awareness Day gives us an opportunity to remember the people we have lost while also thinking about what we can do now to prevent another person from becoming a statistic.

That includes talking openly about substance use and overdose, challenging stigma, knowing how to recognize an overdose and knowing how to respond.

In Halton, help is always available. If you or someone you care about wants help changing their drug use, visit halton.cmha.ca to learn more about our programs.
