Being an independent dental hygienist is about so much more than just cleaning teeth and updating charts; we are also infection control queens and dedicated equipment caretakers!

When you visit Quay Hygiene Studio, your safety is always my absolute top priority. That means keeping the stuff you don’t see completely spotless. Here is a little look into why I am so obsessed with maintaining our waterlines, traps, and suction units:

✅ Waterlines: I regularly shock and maintain the studio lines. Without this step, a gross bacterial slime called biofilm can build up, which means spraying contaminated water. Not on my watch!

✅ The Suction (High & Low): Running a specialized cleaner through the lines at the end of every single day is a non-negotiable. It prevents saliva, debris, and sludge from building up, because it’s always easier to prevent a clog than to fix one.

✅ The Traps: They might be a little nasty, but keeping them fresh and clean is exactly what stops the studio’s vacuum system from smelling like a swamp monster!

✅ The Backflow Tea: Have you ever been told to “close your lips around the suction straw” at a dental appointment? That can actually cause a pressure change that sucks fluids and bacteria from the tubing right back into your mouth. No, thank you! That is why I use single-use, backflow-preventing tips and strict cleaning protocols to keep everything completely safe for you.
