The postpartum period can be challenging for fathers, too ❤️

While much-needed attention is rightfully given to the physical and emotional recovery of new mothers, many fathers find themselves navigating a major life transition with little support, and few resources.

This Father’s Day, we want to acknowledge something important: supporting new dads is an essential part of supporting the entire family.

New blog post is up about the different ways new fathers can be supported and how Sasha + Co postpartum doulas can benefit the entire family (particularly for those sleepless nights). More at our link in bio 👆

Setting yourself up for a nourishing, and grounded postpartum is often more about creating space to rest, heal and be nourished vs. buying all the fanciest baby gadgets and having the perfect nursery.

This can look like focusing your time (and money!) on:

* a postpartum doula (especially for night time!)
* A meal train or meal service
* House cleaners
* Pelvic floor physio
* Yoga/pilates/other movement
* Acupuncture
* Post natal massage
* Dog walking services

This is counter intuitive to what is typically put on a baby registry but what babies really need in the immediate postpartum phase is access to their primary caregivers ❤️

This means that if parents are more rested and feel more regulated, they can tend to their little one and feel more patient, compassionate and resourced.

Our team of postpartum doulas are available for both daytime and night time shifts across Vancouver + the north shore 💕

Matrescence is a concept first introduced into the maternal health field by Dana Raphael in the 1970s (she also was responsible for the term “doula” gaining popularity in canada/US), but it isn’t until recently that it’s been sparking a call for a new way to approach the transformation of motherhood.

According to Aurelie Athan, “Matrescence is a developmental passage where a woman transitions, through pre-conception, pregnancy and birth, surrogacy, or adoption to the postnatal period and beyond. The exact length of matrescence is individual, recurs with each child, and may arguably last a lifetime! The scope of the changes encompasses multiple domains— biological, emotional, social, political, spiritual— and can be likened to the developmental push of adolescence.”

That’s why many new mothers report feeling like they’re becoming a new version of themselves and also awakening to many new realities, such as:

•The amount of emotional labour that care work requires
•How impactful motherhood is on every aspect of life
•The gendered nature of care work (even in 2026)
•How under-resourced and unsupported mothers are in our culture

Curious to explore Matrescence more deeply? We’ve just dropped a new blog that shares our favourite resources. Available at the link in bio.

One year ago today, Sasha & Co. was born ⭐
In just one year, we’ve grown into a sisterhood of 11 incredible doulas and caregivers. We’ve supported families through some of the most tender, raw, sleep-deprived, love-soaked chapters of their lives.
What I’m most proud of:
⭐ Growing intentionally through word of mouth — families trusting us deeply and other doulas wanting to join this culture.
⭐ Supporting high-needs families, including accessing NCDA + DAFGP funding to reduce financial barriers.
⭐ Partnering with aligned, mostly female-led, BIPOC-owned, local brands.
⭐ Building systems and structure from scratch — without losing the heart of this work.
⭐ Choosing collaboration over competition. Always.
This year stretched me. It asked me to lead with intuition, to trust my vision, and to build something rooted in community rather than ego.
To our team: your magic is what families remember. The muffins baked at midnight. The steady hands. The deep conversations. The way you walk into a home and shift the energy entirely. 🌙
Thank you & happy birthday to us!
