My nephew's teddy bear has barely survived a dog attack, and I'd like to get him in for some reconstructive surgery. So I'm not looking for something immediate, but I'd like to offer the surgery as an Xmas present for my brother when I'm in Edmonton for the holidays (Stuffie health care just isn't that great in Alberta).

Can I get an estimate from you? I know I don't have a pre-attack photo, but even a rough estimate would be helpful. He'll need stuffing and stiches and repairs to his nose. I'm not sure whether or not he needs fur grafts, but maybe a few.

Hi Ronda, I can give him a spa treatment to get rid of the doggy slobber. Then fix his muzzle, give him new eyes & fix all the holes & finally more stuffing.

STUFFY EMERGENCY!
I hope you are well. I am reaching out because yesterday our dog destroyed our daughter’s bunny. He tore off the ears, arms, and legs and we weren’t able to find the limbs so we assume he ate them This was her very special and favourite bunny from when she was a baby (she is 6 now)- and was very well loved (as you can see from the photo). I understand it may be a long shot but is there any way to fix her, by adding different ears and limbs perhaps? I was thinking to sew or crochet new limbs for her but I’m also not an expert in those skills and am afraid I’ll end up making it look worse. Please let me know if there are any options available for us- it would mean so much! Thank you kindly for your time and consideration. Arzu

Hi Arzu, Your dog must have been very hungry. I will be able to make the arms, legs & ears. He looks like a JellyCat bunny. I’ll have to get a donor bear for the fur - I’ll match it as close as I can. I’ll also give him a spa treatment & grooming.

I’ve been looking for a donor bunny for the design & length of limbs for bunny. The other problem I see is her colour. She was pink, now mainly an off white. What coloured fur would you like - it will be hard to match either colour. Ruth

Yes, if there is no light blush colour this cream colour is ok!

My daughter's jelly cat monkey nose (brown color) has completely come apart and only the stuffing is showing.

Hello Ruth,

I heard your interview on CBC and am interested to know if there is any chance of restoring this teddy bear.

It was gifted to my brother when he was born in England in 1925 by our mother’s aunt who lived in Philadephia USA. By the time I was born 12 years later it was in use in our father’s photography studio to occupy small children sitting for their portraits, so I never got to play with it. After our father retired in 1970 the bear moved into a cupboard in my parents house. I rescued it from there after our parents died and brought it to Canada. It was already in poor shape - it is made from sheepskin and the leather has hardened. At some time someone had attempted sewing the leg back on. Moths had also been at work.

I have kept this teddy with my collection of bears from my late husband’s family and those I have knitted myself over the years. If it can be repaired in any way I will send it back to England to my niece for her to keep or pass on to her grandchildren - it was after all originally sent to her father.

Hi Muriel, I think your teddy can be repaired. I’ll have to open him up as well as his leg.

Hi Muriel, Your teddy is ready to go home. I lined his leg & got it back together. I gave him a surface wash so he does look better. I couldn’t get a good match for the hole in his body. I used blue fabric & tried to darken it a bit to match his fur.

Just wanted to let you know that Teddy is safely back in Sechelt, and looking and feeling so much better thanks to your good work!

VINTAGE 1980 CARE BEAR is handled with care.

I stumbled on your teddy bear hospital while looking up a textile repair clinic and it's exactly what I need (even if it wasn't what I was originally searching for.) I have a Care Bear teddy bear I was given when I was about 4 years old. When I was a teenager I was playing roughly with him and his head came mostly off, which was very distressing. My mother tried to fix him but it's never really been fixed.

I live in Burnaby, so I'm really glad I found you. Can I make an appointment to see if we can fix him up? The stitching around his neck is pretty bad, and I think the fabric it fairly ragged around where the tear happened, so I'm hoping we can finally stitch him up really solidly. He's in a bit of rough shape and I don't think he could handle going through a washing machine, which is too bad as he got very dirty over the years. I'm hoping we can wash or replace any stuffing that needs it, and then wash him as well..

My name is Kimberley. I came to you a few years ago with my daughter's Tiger and you gave him so much TLC. You cleaned him, restuffed and sewed him with love.

Unfortunately, one of the stitches is coming undone and my daughter is mortified her tiger is on his death bed. I was curious if this is something you might be able to fix with your amazing talents? ?

I have a stuffed monkey from my childhood and I’m looking for someone to sew him a new body. The fabric that makes him up now is very worn. I don’t mind if the new fabric is just sewn right over top of the old fabric. I am wondering if you do such things or if you could recommend someone who does? I’ve attached a photo of him as he is now, sorry I don’t have one of him in his original state. Thank you! Joanne
