Recovery doesn’t always begin with one defining moment. Sometimes, it begins with the willingness to believe that life could be different.

In our new "Voices of Northstar" blog post, Aly shares her powerful journey through addiction, recovery, connection, and finding hope again. After asking for help in 2025, Aly found support through Northstar’s Women’s Program and began rebuilding her confidence, reconnecting with family, and discovering a renewed sense of purpose.

Today, Aly works as a Peer Navigator at Northstar, supporting other women as they begin their own recovery journeys.

Her story is a powerful reminder that recovery is about more than sobriety—it’s about connection, community, healing, and building a life you once thought might not be possible.

"After having 2.5 years clean I let addiction get ahold of me again and destroy the life I built leaving me hopeless, defeated and not wanting to live all over again. A year ago I decided to call Together We Can Drug & Alcohol Recovery & Education Society to seek help and forever will be grateful for the path they laid out for me and the friends that supported and helped me along the way and the new friendships that came into my recovery life.

This year hasn’t been easy and the past month has been about forgiveness, reflection, grief, healing, being on my own and working on myself with god to become the best version of myself and can’t wait to see where this journey takes me. We do recover." -Chelsea

"One year ago, I made a decision that completely changed the course of my life. I never imagined my life without the use of substances. Today, I am deeply grateful to live aligned as my authentic self—free from drugs and alcohol.

Recovery radiates into every corner of my life: my career, my wellness, my connection with family and friends, and most importantly, my relationship with SELF. NorthStar was where my recovery story began, but the work continues in my day-to-day life.
