Celebrating 49 today. 🎂

Looking back, I always knew I wanted to be a doctor.

I dedicated myself fully to my studies, graduating in Medicine from UERJ at 23. I became a dermatologist through the Instituto de Dermatologia Azulay in 2003, served as a physician in the Brazilian Air Force, and ran my own clinic in Brasília for 8 years.

In 2016, I moved to Canada with my family, went back to school for my Master’s, and completed a 4-year program to become a Naturopathic Doctor. Today, with my own clinic, Rio Skin Clinic, I’m living the dream of continuing my lifelong passion for medicine.

Motherhood tested me in ways nothing else ever had. During my pregnancy, I needed three intrauterine blood transfusions, and Manuela was born premature, spending 37 days in the NICU due to hemolytic anemia. Those days taught me a kind of strength and gratitude that still shapes how I see life today. 🙏

I’m grateful for my family, for my choices along the way, and for every friend and patient who has been part of my journey.

I’m especially grateful for my husband Rafael Martins, who has been part of my life for 29 years and has always stood by my side through every moment. ❤️

And for Manuela, my sweet and devoted daughter, who changed the meaning of my life and, every night for four years, supported me as I studied to become a Naturopathic Doctor. 🥹

I can’t wait to see what the year ahead holds. ✨

Photo dump: An incredible 3-week summer break! ☀️❤️

From a quick mother-daughter road trip to Penticton, to two amazing weeks in Orlando with the ❤️family, plus quick getaways to Clearwater, St Pete, St Agostini and Daytona Beach. We topped it all off with an unforgettable NASCAR experience—3 ride-along laps at 270 km/h for me, while hubby got the full practice experience! 🏎️💨

Two graduations. Two countries. One calling. 🎓🇧🇷🇨🇦

On National Physicians’ Day I find myself looking at these two photos — graduating as a Medical Doctor in Rio de Janeiro in 2000, and after 23 years of practice, returning to school in Canada to complete my Naturopathic Medicine training in 2023 — and feeling deeply grateful for the journey.

I didn’t choose one path over the other. I chose both. Because I believe the future of medicine is integrative — where science and nature work together, not against each other.

Going back to school after more than two decades wasn’t easy. But my passion for medicine has no expiry date.

Every day I bring both disciplines into my practice, for every patient who walks through my door.

Happy National Physicians’ Day to my fellow physicians and naturopathic doctors — keep going. 🩺🌿
