Hi and welcome. I’m Meagan Olson — mother of three, Doula, grief companion, educator, intuitive, and lifelong student of the beautifully messy, sacred transitions of being human.
I was born and raised in Grande Prairie, Alberta, and love this community so much. I have spent most of my adult life working with children and have an Early Childhood and Montessori background. Supporting families and my community has always been something I have been dedicated to. Over my adult years, I have also been honoured to be present for some births. Witnessing a woman give birth is literally one of the most incredible and powerful experiences to be present for. It is humbling and instilled this reverence in me for the feminine. Six years ago I decided to complete formal Birth & Postpartum Doula training with a calling that has only grown stronger with time. Since then I have also completed Loss of Life and Menopausal Doula training, alongside Childbirth Educator training. I am obsessed with honouring the sacred rites of passage that we go through as women and also supporting and understanding our physical bodies, the cycles we go through, womb work, and the divine feminine. I have spent a long time loving, supporting and walking beside women during the moments when life changes shape... not only when we become mothers but also when we hit rock bottom, when our identity is challenged, when we are grieving, when we lose sight of ourselves, or when we remember who we really are.
I have recently been through some life experiences where I have sat and challenged my own identity and who I really am, why I am doing what I am doing, so many personal stories, and what aligns with my core values. It has been filled with so much grieving and huge triumphs too. One of the things I have reflected on was my role as a Doula and what that meant to me. The immediate reaction was my love for supporting women and doing "typical" Doula work. I think most people hear the word Doula and immediately just think childbirth...even I did for many years. Now I feel that the word Doula didn't give justice to ALL of the work that Doula's do. I am holding space for transformation... for a threshold. A space where women are crossing over into something new and not just during childbirth but during loss and becoming. New has so many layers that hold emotion, physical experiences, loss, resilience, humour, identity, love, and celebrations. Something in me shifted and I was finally ready to claim something within my own self. I also bring years of experience as an educator and guide, a deep connection with nature and earth-based wisdom, and an intuitive way of seeing the person beneath the circumstance. I believe you don’t need someone to fix you (you actually don't need any fixing at all) or tell you what you should be doing. You need someone willing to sit beside you in the threshold. Someone who can hold space when you don't have the words. Someone who isn't afraid of the messy, uncomfortable parts. Someone who understands that grief and joy can exist in the same room. Someone who will remind you that you are still becoming. This is so much more than what I used to think Doula work was and that is what The Threshold Keeper means to me.
I am not here to tell you how your journey should look as no two are the same. I’m here to walk beside you while you discover it for yourself. 🌿
So, if you're new here — welcome. If you are not new - thank you for joining me in this space too.
I’m Meagan.
And I’m honoured to be a keeper of the thresholds.
Much Love...
