In Loving Memory of Heidi Linde
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Oma, Heidi Linde, who passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, at the age of 95. She was born on June 21, 1931, and from Redeber, Germany, where she was raised by her mother, Lisebeth, and her father, Otto.
Heidi married the love of her life, a wonderful man named Hans Linde. In 1958, together they made the courageous journey to Canada, taking the train from Quebec all the way to Alberta, where they laid down their roots and began building the Linde family legacy. There, they welcomed their daughter, Diana, and began a life filled with family, hard work, adventure, and love.
Their shared love of the mountains, hunting, and fishing took them on many memorable trips to beautiful British Columbia. It was there that they eventually laid the foundation for the Linde family tree to continue growing.Heidi and Hans built a beautiful home that became so much more than four walls. It was a place where family gathered, where memories were made, and where generations learned the value of a hard day's work.
Their home helped raise their grandson, Jesse, and provided a safe and loving place for their granddaughter, Tabatha, to grow. In that home, we learned the truth of a good day's work and the skills needed to plant, grow, preserve, and cook our own food. Oma taught us that nothing tastes quite as good as something you have grown with your own hands—and, of course, don't forget, there is always room for cake!
Oma was a woman who could put most men to shame with her many skills and abilities. She was never afraid to work hard, learn something new, or lend a helping hand. She carried strength and determination that never seemed to fade, even as the years passed.
She passed down her green thumb and traditional German cooking to Michelle, sharing not only recipes and gardening knowledge, but pieces of the traditions that had been carried with her from Germany.
To Jeffrey, Oma taught a different kind of lesson—that even at 95 years old, stubbornness does not fade away with time, and perhaps he should have run when he had the chance!
To Orisia, she passed down some of her favorite things, including the love of knitting and crochet. These simple skills became much more than hobbies; they became connections between generations.
For Rowan, Oma was determined that he would be the one who spoke German. And somehow, she always seemed to have a cookie hiding somewhere just for him.
And then there was Jacob, whose place in Oma's heart was unconditional. Her love for him was as though he was the missing piece that completed the picture.
Oma's love of family traditions, especially those she carried with her from Germany, will forever be ingrained in all of us. She kept those traditions alive through food, stories, celebrations, skills, and the simple ways she brought family together.The stories Oma could remember about the old times were astonishing. Even when you had heard them before, she could tell them in a way that made you feel as though you were hearing them for the very first time. It was sometimes hard to believe that one person could have lived through and remembered so many extraordinary and unfathomable experiences.Above all else, Heidi held tightly to her family. She gave everything she had to give to provide the people she loved with the best lives possible. Her strength, determination, humour, traditions, and love became part of the foundation upon which our family continues to grow.
Heidi will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Diana; her grandchildren, Jesse (Michelle) and Tabatha (Jeffrey); and her great-grandchildren, Orisia, Rowan, and Jacob.There will be a big hole in our lives for a while. But we will fill that space with love, laughter, tears, stories, traditions, and memories of the amazing woman who held tightly to her family and gave everything she had to give.Her legacy will live on in every garden planted, every German recipe prepared, every stitch knitted, every story told, every family tradition carried forward—and, most importantly, in the hearts of the family she loved so dearly.
