Couldn’t be more proud of E today! 🤩🤟

He did an awesome job with Lunging for Respect. He got ol’ Danny Boy moving his feet, kept control of his extended arm, and when things got frustrating, he stayed calm, waited for clear instructions, and kept trying.

Now, Danny knows how to move his feet—he’s an old ranch rope horse. But he also knows exactly how to make E step up, be assertive, and take on that leadership role.

The try, determination, and patience E showed today would make any horseman proud. If Clinton Anderson saw this team today, I think he'd be smiling at the effort E put in.

As for Danny Boy... well... Clinton would probably just say, “Make that son of a bitch move his feet!” 😂

One of my favorite activities to do with many of my students, clients, and families is an Art Therapy exercise I call "Painting With My Horse."

Participants choose words that reflect their experiences with their horse partner and assign each word a color. In this piece:

💙 Blue = Relaxation
💛 Yellow = Peace
💜 Purple = Comfort
🩵 Teal = Authenticity
🤍 White = Horse
💚 Dark Green = Quiet

Once the paint is on the canvas, the horse joins in, using his or her nose to help create the masterpiece.

As I was sorting through canvases and photos recently, this one stopped me in my tracks. Instantly, I saw a young woman emerging from the blues and greens, walking freely and peacefully, her flowing dress trailing behind her like water. It felt like spring, like a dance, like a journey of becoming.

The most beautiful part? Nobody painted a woman.

She simply emerged from the colors, just as growth, healing, and self-discovery often emerge when we create space for them.
