Hi! ❄️❄️❄️

Did everyone survive the polar vortex?

Here’s some TCM tips to help keep you healthy for the rest of winter!

Winter is the utmost yin season, so we want to nourish yin and balance our yang.

We can nourish our yin by:
- Generally slowing down
- Sleeping/resting more
- Doing gentle exercise/stretch
- Staying hydrated
- Spending more time alone

We can balance our yang by:
- Staying warm and cozy
- Hot baths/foot baths
- Eating warming foods
- Drinking warm beverages

We can keep our Kidney System happy and healthy by:
- Keeping our feet warm/wearing cozy socks
- Keeping our low back warm
- Not overworking or “burning the candle at both ends”
- Eating foods that are salty, black, kidney shaped, or bone based (bone broth, bone marrow)
- Getting Acupuncture!

🌼 Enjoy these last days of summer! 🌼

💜Yesterday was Mental health awareness day. It’s a reminder to be more open to talking about mental health, with less judgement and more understanding.
I have personally struggled with anxiety and depression and know how difficult it can be.
That’s one of the main reasons I got into acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, I started receiving acupuncture treatments for mental health years ago and it really helped me.

💜Acupuncture points are areas rich in nerve fibers, when stimulated with needles these fibers send signals to the brain to produce various responses.

💜These physiological responses include reducing cortisol (stress hormone), and boosting endorphins (pain relief, relaxation), dopamine/serotonin (regulate mood and sleep), norepinephrine (regulate stress response), GABA (calm nervous system), and oxytocin (improve emotional well being).

💜Regular acupuncture treatments along with other forms of therapy (meds, talk therapy, diet, exercise) can help improve mental and emotional health.

🥬Hi!

🥬 Nothing to do with acupuncture but I wanted to show the difference between the beautiful, local, Swiss chard from on the right and the sad one from Safeway on the left.

🥬 has the most amazing produce right, check it out and stock up for winter, they close October 8!

🍂 It’s fall! This season is my favourite but bracing myself for what’s to come, is not.

🍂 In Chinese medicine, a huge part of good health is moving in harmony with nature, instead of fighting against it.

🍂 So let’s lean into cozy season and get excited for winter and everything that comes with it. Sleeping longer, soups and stews, warm drinks, cancelling plans and spending time alone, slowing down, booking cozy acupuncture sessions, and lots of extra snuggle time with Theo!
