This , the AO is delighted to announce Michael Suk as Chair of the AO Technology Transfer Board.

Michael is currently Professor and Chair of the Musculoskeletal Institute and the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Geisinger Health System, US, and brings a wealth of skills and experience to the new role. His background—encompassing orthopedic trauma surgery, health system leadership, commercialization of technology and legal training—means he is strongly positioned to drive the remit of AO Innovation Funding.

As he embarks on the new role, Michael’s focus will be on rigorous project selection and defining clear pathways from early clinical need to investable, partner-ready opportunities.

Liposphere achieves CE Mark approval for CCoat®

👏 The AO warmly congratulates Liposphere on gaining CE Mark approval for CCoat®, a unique injectable cartilage-protecting technology for patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA).

This achievement represents a major advance in the 5-year partnership between AO and Liposphere. Since joining the AO’s innovation ecosystem in 2021, Liposphere has worked closely with the AO to advance its mission of bringing novel treatment solutions to patients with degenerative joint disease. A key milestone was reached in September 2026 with the regulatory approval of CCoat® as a Class III medical device in Europe.

CCoat® introduces a completely new mode of action based on boundary lubrication, offering a promising new approach to joint protection and symptom management for patients living with OA.

Through its Innovation Funding program, AO supports inventors and early-stage ventures in bringing ideas to reality and into surgeons’ hands. 🎉 We celebrate this ground-breaking step with Liposphere and look forward to supporting the team further in the next phase of the journey to clinical success.
