Pédalez pour l'Ethiopie

Un soutien à un hôpital pour une population de 10 millions d’habitants. Cela fait maintenant plus de 10 ans que le Dr. Jörg Peltzer, actuellement chef du département de chirurgie à Delémont, s’est engagé en Ethiopie avec beaucoup de ténacité et de coeur pour tenter d’améliorer le système de santé. Au cours des années, des idées se sont concrétisées et des rêves ont pu être

réalisés: le centre traumatologique de Jimma, une ville au sud-ouest de l’Ethopie, a été construit en 2003 et fonctionne comme unique centre de traumatologie en Ethiopie.Tous les jours de nombreuses personnes, accidentées ou malades se rendent à l’hôpital de Jimma afin d’y obtenir des soins. Dès le début du projet STAR, des initiatives sportives ont été mises en oeuvre afin de récolter des fonds. Trois actions sportives ont déjà été couronnées de succès, et c’est ainsi que le projet à Jimma a pu grandir. Mais le besoin de fonds s’est lui aussi accru, si l’on veut assurer la continuité et la bonne qualité du projet dans l’avenir. Notre action sportive numéro 4 est directement liée à un sport jurassien: le VTT. Notre ambitieux objectif cette fois, est de récolter 1’000’000 francs suisses en pédalant sous le soleil brillant de l’Ethiopie. Vous avez différentes possibilités pour soutenir notre projet – de manière plus ou moins active: nous faire un don pour nous aider ou venir pédaler avec nous. La misère que connaît l’Ethiopie est plus grande que jamais, même si les images de la famine la plus terrible depuis décennies de ne sont plus dans nos coeurs.

A bullet wound led to the amputation of 35 year-old Denkitu Adam's left leg.

After a successful operation, Go Star now makes sure she will be able to walk and lead a full life again with a made-to-measure prosthesis from the prosthetics center at Jimma University Hospital.

Follow the journey of 12 year-old Sabir Abanega. After suffering from tetanus as a young child, he developed cancer and his left leg had to be amputed as a result. Recently he came to visit the Go Star prosthetics center at Jimma University Hospital and got measured for his new leg prosthesis. We are excited to get young Sabir walking again. CONGRATS 🎉

Last week, six of the Go Star surgeons received their first university certification as orthopedic trauma surgeons. After four years of training, this marks the first graduating class. We are thrilled with their excellent results and are delighted to celebrate yet another milestone in Go Star’s history! 💪

Among the graduates are two female surgeons from Somaliland who, after successfully completing their training, will now continue their work in their home country and share their medical experience with other young doctors.

We are thus proud to be able to promote this positive form of “medical tourism” with our Go Star initiatives. This makes our work sustainable and effective across borders! ❤️

One of the key principles behind Go Star is simple:
medical professionals should be trained under the conditions in which they will later work.

This is what we call Reversed Fellowship.
Instead of sending local doctors abroad for training, we bring experienced "alumni" of the Go Star project to Jimma and teach directly in the clinical environment, using the same equipment, workflows and constraints that define everyday practice.

This approach ensures:
💪 practical, context-specific skills
🚨 faster integration into clinical responsibility
🧠long-term retention of knowledge

In many parts of Ethiopia access to surgical care is still limited. Short-term medical missions can provide important support – but they rarely change systems.
We at Go Star have a different approach!

Instead of temporary interventions, we invest in:
🎓 long-term training of local healthcare professionals
🏗️ building and maintaining medical infrastructure
🏥 close collaboration with existing local institutions
Today, the trauma center in Jimma treats more than 200 patients per day and is increasingly led by local specialists!

👍 Sustainable healthcare is all about building functional systems.
